Mine is "Terrappin Station", cuase its good to trip and get high to. "Estimated Prophet" fuckin rocks, and may go down in rock history. Second fav is "In the Dark" (which sounds stupid, but "TOuches of Grey", and West L.A. Fadeaway are on it and both of those tunes rock). Is that Jim Morrison in your sig man? nO OFFENSE BUT i FUCKIN HATE THAT GUY.
i love "Blues for Allah"....not a blues album, but it is psychedelic beauty! with "Help on the Way/Slipknot>Franklins Tower" as the opener this album is unstoppable.....then there is a song i've never heard since the album called "king solomon's marbles" it is really good....that melts into "the music never stopped" which needs no description, as you all should know and love it....followed by "crazy fingers" which is just so dead.....then it is followed by a song called "sage and spirit" that is some sort of lute song, kind of celtic, kind of middle eastern.....but the title track "blues for allah" is a beautiful song that is an arabian trip to neverland, perfect way too close out this album....
I don't think I've 'bought' a Grateful Dead studio album in 15 years nor a live one in 10 for that matter. I stick to the live stuff available for free through trading or downloading
yea man, birth is sick, i went through my 66 phase. also, check out rare cuts and oddities. its on the itunes music store and all 1966. Its hard to say what my fav studio is but probably anthem or the sun or workingmans dead.
I Love Workin Mans And I Enjoy Blues For Allah Totally I Only Have A Tape Of Anthem But Its Great Alligatori
American Beauty and Workingman's Dead top the list equally as far as the studio albums go for me, with Blues For Allah coming in right afterward. Live, I'll have to go through the various Dick's Picks, but Europe '72 is tops for sentimental reasons that have little to do with the music itself.
musically, I cannot answer, but personally, In the Dark: I know, I know, but here's why: I almost died from a heart attack in 1989. I was checking out of the hospital and sat slumped in the passenger seat of my own car. My friend who was driving hit the radio and the third line of "Touch of Grey" was on. So I bought the vinyl and now have a CD. Throwing Stones has also earned its way into my heart.
For the most part I don't listen to much after 70s, mostly late 60s and early 70s. I'm sitting here going "what's birth?" lol then i realized you meant birth of the dead, I like that one, I got em all and it's tough to decide. Here's my list and reasons (excluding dp's and newer releases of vault shit like rockin the rhein etc.): Self-titled - 60s music owns. I really really love golden road and viola lee blues, viola lee blues is so groovy, dam. Anthem of the Sun - Best psychedelic album, includes one of my favorite songs of all time - Alligator. Live/Dead - Classics fill this album American Beauty - I first didn't really like this album, then grew to like it. I now have the dvd audio version and it sounds amazing. It seems like you can hear the subtleties of the music a lot more, maybe it's just me. Friend of the devil, sugar magnolia, and brokedown palace are my favorites. A couple others I like but not as much as those are shakedown street, blues for allah, and terrapin station.
I love the vibe I get from listening to Blues for Allah, and Mars Hotel makes me really nostalgic about certain things in my past, or even things that have yet to go away. The Closing of Winterland is another one of my favorites, but like others, for more sentimental reasons than musical. I love In the Dark because of Touch of Grey and Black Muddy River especially.
