Hi Retinalcircus Peyote from seed can take a long time, but growing them is really rewarding! To get a peyote about 2cm diameter will take a good few years ( 3 ish ). You can spped this up through grafting techniques, using pereskiopsis and blue myrtil as grafting stock. If you are wanting to grow peyote for later use you would do good to buy some matue plants, raisesome from seed and graft some, so in the long term you can try and get a sustainable crop developed. Spiritgarden, have you heard of the bust in the UK? Are you concerned at all for your store and/or plants?
hey, sorry if this takes over your thread but... I have few questions about peyote... How many times in a day or week or mouth do you water peyote? I now its a cactis, and my teacher tells me your only sappouse to water it like 2 or 4 times a year. Is this true? Also, Can you develop a whole "gardan" of peyote?... Like a huge pot of peyote growing togehter? Like a huge cluster ...Also to do this do you have to start with seeds, to do that?
more like once a week. also take into consideration the slow rate at which this succulent grows; if you are lucky enough to obtain one, or already have it, treat it with the most utmost respect (don't carelessly butcher it). to grow from seeds to a mature cactus, the time is somewhere around ten years or so; and yes, you can grow a nice patch of it, once you have a mature cactus (transplant)
Ten years.. huh... Well i should get started then... Another stupid question ... How sun light does it need? I can get an amazing please where it can set in the sun. But it gets pretty cooled at night around there. Is that alright? Could you grow flowers with the peyote too... Lets say poppies or some pretty flowers?... Also, if you change the soil like once a year, would that speed up the growth of the peyote? LOL man i have so many questions... they can wait
cacti need lots of light, especially peyote...you have to figure, these grow naturally in the desert, where they get bathed in sunlight all day. Nights in the desert are quite cold, so it should do fine. Just remember not to overwater it, and it should be alright...cacti are very hardy, and easy to take care of. poppies should probably be grown separate, as they like lots of water, and grow like weeds (they might compete for nutrients in the soil)
Would i be able to cut the buttoms off and eat them and then plant the top part again? or is that the other way around?
So if i consume the the peyote... I should cut the buttom part of and plant that again. Then it the top part... right? ah, Soil question needs to be answered and what are the prices, and where can i buy them. Im not so keened about buying it of the net and then receiveing it in the mail...
