So i'm guessing this thread goes here. Has anyone heard of this Goa-trance stuff? What is it suppose to be anyway? What's Goa? Also has anyone ever heard of Shpongle? It's crazy!

Goa refers to a place (town or region, I'm not sure) in India where this particular brand of psychadelic trance music originated. I believe it was a popular spot in the 60s for hippies to party, and now hosts some outdoor trance parties on the beach.

Schpongle is one of my favourite Psychedelic producers aswell as his psytrance name (Hallucinogen).
The new Shpongle album is pretty good, but of course... "Are you shpongled" is a classic (especially when tripping)

Goa is a the smallest state of India where they throw immense Trance parties for days on end. Apparently Goa is a must see for partiers!

Goa trance is great! there is also stuff called psytrance which is equally as good, that developed from goa trance and is mainly made in the uk, the netherlands and israel. Goa is more organic with natural sounds incorporated into it, while psychedelic trance is more cyber (metallic?), Goa Gil is the grandaddy of goa trance, hope that was a bit of useful info [IMG]

Oh yeah. Goa is awesome. My favorite group/song in Infected Mushroom and Gravity Waves.

Ahhh, seems like some ranting is the order of the day here....

Shpongle is excellent stuff, but it is not goa, nor is it trance. It's a collaboration between Simon Posford (Hallucinogen, 1/2 of Younger Brother, 1/3 of Celtic Cross and about 1000 other groups) and Raja Ram (Infinity Project, 1200 Mics etc). One might call it psy ambient but not all of it is psychedelic nor is all of it ambient.
Damn straight! Divine Moments of Truth has on more than one occasion brought me to tears (when the violin kicks in wowowow:))
The days on end parties are just dreams now sadly, with the police wanting more money to put on parties and the place overrun with idiotic israeli kids with no respect and obnoxious middle class english kids going to take drugs, find these 'legendary' parties and generally act like spoilt brats... 5-10 years ago was when it was kicking off... You might get the odd party here and there but there's a lot of rich indian peopleand russian mafia muscling in on the action..
Goa Gil is an aging acid casualty who can't mix. Psychedelic Trance is made by artists from all around the world, South Africa, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Australia, Eastern Europe etc, not just the ones mentioned. I don't know about parties but Netherlands is not a big country for psy producers and dj's. 99% of new Israeli psy is awful boomduggaboomduggaboomduggaboomdugga ecstacy music, nothing psychedelic about it which brings me onto my next point...
Infected is certainly not goa, and absolutely not psy. It's cheesy Israeli pop music, listen to last album IM The Supervisor for proof. First album was alright though but it was 8 years ago, I'll give them that...

Infected Mushroom used to be good! Their first album is my favourite psy-trance cd ever! The following two weren't that bad but I never go into B.P. Empire, after that they have been rubbish and mostly make cheesy crap as the Reverend pointed out.

Also have to agree that people here don't have a clue and shouldn't post if they don't know about the subject!

Nowadays the most interesting releases are the more progressive side of the psy scene. It's more club oriented though so most of you "hippies" won't like it.

I forgot to add that if you are looking for Goa Trance (which has been dead for ages) you should check out Suntrip records which release the closest thing to Goa Trance nowadays.

Sorry but I have to correct you here.. Hallucinogen is Simon Posford (founder of Twisted Records) but Shpongle is a collaboration of Simon Posford and Raja Ram (and now, I believe, a few others to form a live band element).

If you want some good Goa, you should download some Space Buddha, and you quite simply NEED the album 'Goa Generation'...

Israeli trance isn't all bad, just mostly bad. Infected Mushroom can eat a fucking dick. Vicious Delicious is a God damn insult to my face.

Psytrance is a never ending sea of mediocrity, brought on by the fact that most of it is formulaic garbage and half of it isn't even psychedelic.

Finnish psy is where it's at. Suomi has some great artists and great sounds.

Want some really psychedelic psychedelic trance? Check out PeLinPalas album, and Procs second album The Lonely Land of Tada. South Afrika has some good acts going these days, Frozen Ghost and Dirty Motion being some real in your face shit that has it's own edge.

Astral Projection and the like, meaning all top named psytrance artists, with the exception of Hallucinogen and maybe a few others, are shit.

Psytrance is a huge genre with 10-20+ releases every month, most of which is shit. Everyone and their fucking mom wants to make it, so almost all of it is bland. It takes a long time to shovel through the shit, but theres some real gold out there.

May I ask why you're advising people to stay clear of psyparties?! There's a brilliant range of psychedelic events here in the UK enjoyed by many; and it's not about the money, believe it or not.
Which brings me to my next point - Simon Posford (Hallucinogen). What a toffee nosed pretentious twat. He's been doing live sets of Hallucinogen material for years and now charges £3k for a 1 hour live set. He's over playing in Japan because he's too expensive for this country! This man is not in it for the music, that's for sure. Well, he's still playing his debut material at these lives - and although he's been doing work with Shpongle and YB (as well as Twisted records - initially generating more money) - he has no excuse for charging that much for material that's been played and played over and over for a number of years. He really is milking it.
Fair enough, originally he was ground breaking - but now he's just piss taking. Also, he's no stranger to miming on stage - not even playing live and just pretending! I'm not dissing the music because I love it, but the man himself is a business suit and the scary thing is that musically, he hasn't even sold out yet.
