The Amsterdam Courthouse has ruled last friday that the ban on the sale and consumption of Absinth is illegal and thus that sale can begin immediately. Absinth is a strong alcoholic beverage (45% or more) that also contains the substance thujone which is taught to have a hallucinating effect. Now I've never tasted it but apparantly it was quite popular in the 19th century. Some people blame Absinth and its wide usage back then for quite some events. For instance, Van Gogh would have cut off his own ear whilst under the influence of absinth. Anyway its legal again and for those who come in the neighberhood it might be an idea to try. Just taught y'all should know.
i tried it while in the czech republic. a dangerous, dangerous drink....in a good way. gets you very drunk, but (for me at least) it's a very happy, outgoing drunk. tastes like pure gasoline, though.
So do you actually hallucinate on it? Is it as strong as other hallucinogens? And how long does it last?
absinthe is tough. you have to drink it the right way and it has to be stored properly. then its tasty and yes halucinigenic. but you have to have control, cus if you have more than one or two, your gonna pass out and forget the experience.
When I was in amsterdam and you even brought up absynthe, the bartenders looked at you like you were crazy to even want to try it.
haha...yes the too many and you pass out thing, that was my problem the first time. so i had to try it again the next night! there were some bars that even made absinthe cocktails. mix it with strawberry juice and various other stuff, which sounds tasty, but you just can't cover up the taste of nasty absinthe.
We can buy the stuff here in Ontario at the LCBO I love the anise flavor, reminds me of Lebanese Arak. I doubt that the thujone content in any modern comercial absinthe is enough to make one halucinate.
is it legal to buy in israel? i'm here now, and a friend i spoke to wanted to find out if i could bring some back home to the states. i've never looked into it, never cared to too much, but i'd love to do him this favor. is it legal in israel?
