what do you guys think about those kiddie beauty pagents? i think they can go a bit over the top.. i started thinking about this because as i was looking through some peoples photos on flickr.com, i came across this set of portraits of a girl who cant be older than 6. she was dolled up with foundation, black eyeliner, lipstick, and was posing. that kind of thing just makes me sick. sure it might be harmless and just for fun but for gods sake why does a 6 year old need to be wearing makeup?! and why even begin to enforce on her at that age the importance of being pretty?
Well yeah, children should only be brought up around endless fields of flowers, tye dye shirts and wooden stoves. Get real. We live in a world where image is 90% of everything and to disagree is living in a fantasy that will never come true.
I was a pagaent kid it scare-ed me really bad-not kidding. I would never do it to my kids if I had any. It sexualizes children too I mean swimsuit competitions for 12 year olds...disguisting
i personally think it's kind of sad. i saw a thing on tv about child beauty pagents and it seriously made me ill. they say they judge based on personality, talent and most admirable body. WTF, these children are from 2 months-6 years old. it's just another way to train females to take on the passive role as objects put on display for others entertainment. teach them how to pose, paint their faces to hide their natural human beauty, smile even if it hurts, etc. most of the girls on the program looked miserable, and the ones who were having 'fun' were obviously doing it because it made mommy happy. they showed a bit of the preparation process too, moms raking combs through their daughters' delicate scalps, curling their hair into obnoxious sculptures, slathering on 10lbs of hairspray, blush and lipstick. and this was a program promoting these pagents, seriously twisted. sorry this is completely unarticulate, i'm suffering from severe lack of sleep but this is a subject i'm quite passionate about.
exactly I learned how to put on make-up when I was 4...before I could read an entire sentence I could put mascara on...
exactly! it's total exploitation of kids too young to know any better. and it's teaching them all the wrong things. im sorry you had to go through that lynsey.. ill never do that to my kids, its beyond awful
me neither it left me with some really bad issues throughout high school and even into my early adult life. I felt like if I wasn't the best looking in class or at a conference or at work that I was nothing and would never succeed or give a speech right. That's why I was so nervous talking to the freshman last week as oppossed to the phd's because 18 year old girls...I'm bound not to be the best looking or the best dressed or be the most put together in the room, 40 year old phd's no problem I'm tot confident...it's really sick and sad
i guess i just dont see the point, to be honest. sure, the participants always swear its just for fun, or for character development, or something. but all i see is a sick way for some really disgusting perverts to idolize young girls and get off from it. i think its a different story once you're older, but for children so young, no way is it beneficial to them. and also, what i've always found to be beautiful or attractive in kids is there natural beauty and innocence. the way a little girls hair is so shiny and perfect, without paying big bucks @ the hairdressers. or the way they smile. those things are what are really beautiful. not big hair and pounds of make up.
Ok... now that's too far. I've never seen one of these things. I assumed it was little girls in shirley temple dresses and shit for people to go "awwww, how adorable". Not a pre-teen bikini contest for nasty old men to go, "Wow. Did you see the nockers on that one". How the fuck is that even legal?
I never liked Kiddie beauty pagents either. They do teach kids at a young age the wrong kids of things to be obsessing over. So do spelling bee's, but not quite so bad. I still don't need some snot nosed brat teaching me to spell autodidactic. Go to hell.
I think those pageants are sick. I wonder how many pedos wait in line for tickets, because, hey, it's legal..... Teaching young girls that beauty on the outside is the most important thing in the world....good idea. And some of these parents you hear about...wow. They still don't know who killed JonBenet Ramsey....remember her?
image? 90% of everything? Sounds like youre the one living in a fantasy world. Either that, or whichever country youre in needs a good shakeup.
