Hi Everyone, I haven't posted on hipforums in.. soo long. But, I need some opinions. I graduated highschool through homeschooling last April. I originally hadn't planned on attending college, and was living in the Dominican Republic for a bit. I came back, just in time to start taking classes part time at a local University for the fall semester taking courses pertaining to a degree in Psychology. But, this semester (spring) I took off, because I'm really not sure if college is where I want to be, and I dont want to be spending all this money on something, when my heart isn't in it. So, it just seems to me like I have too many options. I've always loved the idea of owning my own business, whether it be something including art, music, or a coffee shop... something along those lines. Being independent in that sense appeals to me. And.. then again, I also really enjoy working with kids. I've worked in a day care since I was old enough to begin working. So, that'd be something nice to go into as well. I have lots of time before the next fall semester in college. But, still, I'm trying to figure out what on earth I should do. Any ideas??..
Maybe you should explore those venues. Volunteer or work at those kinds of places and see if you REALLY like it. It's always good that if you want to own your own business to take a few classes to get a little knowledge...and remember MOST businesses close after three years. Maybe try doing the AmeriCorps (if you're from the US)...and explore those opporunities, it's a good way to get experience and get paid for it... Just a suggestion.
Hi. Thanks for the reply. I took a look at the AmeriCorps website, it seems cool. And, through that I can get some practical experience, and it'd look good on a resume in the future. Definatly something I'm going to think about.
Where did you live in the DR? Sorry, that has nothign to do with your question...but the only thing I can really think of for you to do, is just get out there and get some experience...do some research, etc! Most importantly, don't stress out about it! Everything will work out!
You and I are in the same boat... Im taking it a day at a time. And maybe pick up a skill or trade while youre deciding what to do...and by the time the perfect route hits you, youll already be accomplishing somehting.
hi caitlin. yeah, i am looking into so many options. and taking things slowly now. i decided to keep my options open for the time being, and work through out the summer, and save my money. just so, if i do decide to go back to college, to a trade school, to volunteer, or go on a trip, i can.
thanks for the replies!! i am looking into so many options (like.. really, from all ends of the spectrum, college, esthetic arts, starting a business, volunteering, etc etc). but, i'm going to look into each, and take things slowly now. i decided to keep my options open for the time being, and work through out the summer, and save my money. just so, if i do decide to go back to college, to a trade school, to volunteer, or go on a trip, i can.
Skills or trades are always good...if you're gonna take a class, you could just take one or two and see what you liked and go from there!
