Oh, finally yes! Someone else protesting television! No, I can't stand it anymore--it gives me a headache and a sick feeling. I can't even watch the news anymore, it's so crowded with bias and pointlessness. But do you think that it's okay to get online while protesting tv at the same time? These are things that one must consider, I suppose. Why don't you watch TV anymore?

I tend to watch it when I'm ill. I prefer to read, but the telly is a great depressant.
If healthy, it's a VCR monitor, and that also rarely.

I mainly watch PBS, their news is better, and they have superior nature shows than Discovery or the National Geographic Channel. History channel is alright, but it's usually just an ongoing parade of our many wars.

I don't watch a lot of TV, but still it's too much. I'm also online too much. It's winter and I've nothing better to do.

    I do not watch TV...

Well, a little bit. I watch willingly about once or twice every two weeks.

The main reason that I stopped is that there is just so much to see, do, experience, learn and live in the world without spending all my time infront of the idiot box. When I did watch tv, I spent far too much time, although watching informative stuff, still spent too much time doing nothing rather than getting things done.

The tv being turned off was one of the best things I could have done, now I just have to limit my internet time as well, and all will be good.

My family watches ALOT of TV, but i personally cannot stand it.

The shows are all predictable and lame, and the news, well, letsn ot go there, because i dont remember celebrities personal lives being more important on the news that say, politics, or something actually WORTH a three minute segment on the show. Celebrities lives do not a news hour make.

We have "pay TV" and i think in the whole time we've had it (approximately a year) i've watched two movies, and occasionally the Animal channel, (cant remember the name of the show, but its good - about Animal Welfare League saving animals from neglegent homes)

Im usually out with friends, because lifes too short to spend it in front of a box!

    xxx peace

  9. TV is ok...its like drugs or comfort food. If you're dependent on it to escape reality then you may as well blow it up. I have developed such a distaste for the telly that i'd rather read now...but I try not to miss too much, there is a lot of good independent content here on the non-commercial stations. Its a great tool to stay informed. And I love the family guy ;)

Yeah, I haven't had TV in almost a year, and I hardly miss it at all. I would like to be able to watch the Daily Show and maybe one or two other shows on occasion, but it's so easy to just sit down and waste time watching whatever when you do have cable. Like Selfsustaingsociety said, there's so much more to experience in life.

I also recently stop playing a lot of video games, and spending so much time online. Taking up drawing, writing and reading more, doing industrial art, and trying to meet new people.

There's few things as fulfilling as connecting with other people and exploring your creativity. Why waste time living someone else's made-up life vicariously when you can go out and experience your own life firsthand?

Likewise, no cable as a kid. But I've become absolutley addicted to a few shows ince I've come to college. However, I don't use it as a time killer... Or, i try not to, anyways. No more than two hours a day, normally, though. So I feel that's a good thing for me.

    ..TV... bad.... news... discussed/disgust... brainwash...

I hardly watch any TV anymore, I'll download shows/buy dvds but I can't just sit there and watch anything. I live with a guy who, for as long as I've known him, has spent literally all day every day in front of the TV (give or take a couple of hours).. I guess that's why I'm averse to it. I get to watch him base his life around watching people pretending to live theirs.

In general though, I tend to not like TV because of the way it portrays our world. Imagine watching TV from when you're a nipper, a lot of the time you're going to see all these beatiful 'perfect' people pretending to feel things you wouldn't really feel, and saying things you wouldn't really say.. add to that all this unneccasary violence... witch hunts... people who at a glance only give a shit about girls and money...

that + low social interaction could really mess with a kids development, not to mention generally desensitise them. We're supposed to be sheltered from the fucked up adult world.. Who thinks the next generations adult world is going to be even more fucked? :|

I only watch a few shows a week. But only in the afternoon. When the TV is on it's usually on PBS or used to play video games or watching movies with. I honestly don't want to pay for tv (cable, dish), it's ignorant i you think of it this way: You are paying for tv stations to show you commercials that you can watch for free on braodcast tv. Originally cable was suppose to be commercial free, like when MTV was suppose to show music videos 24-7. Well people got greedy and the cost of producing shows and buying equipment went up, so incomes the adds. Now some idot thought it would be cool to have pop-ups during shows... I know FOX is bad for that. Another thing i see wrong with cable/dish networks is that many have strayed from what they were originally made for: MTV, music... not anymore, Sci-Fi channel....now it's "natural disaster movies and jurrasic park knock offs". It's rediculous, and I'm not paying for it.

I don't watch it alot. And I hate Foxtel and other pay TV thingys. They are the devil. It's all American crap (No offence to Americans. But it's Australia! If I watch TV I want it to be Australian! Little Aussie kids with American accents from watching too much TV is just plain annoying.).

I've heard that your brain works more while sleeping rather than watching TV.

...I'm not sure how to word that...

I sometimes believe that TV does serve a purpose such as news, and the discovery channel but I also believe that those have been destroyed by advertisements.

So you know what... TV sucks. It's addicting. Its kind of like the friend that you don't like but is always there.

i haven't watched really sat down and watched TV in about a year. My mom turned off our cable about 6 months ago when it was clear neither of us ever watched it. I play super nintendo now and then, and i like going to theaters to see movies. (we have a great theater here in my town, they play very good independent stuff.) anyways, i definetely go on the internet more than i should.

anyone here willing to admit they're "addicted" to tv or internet?
    whats that like?
