Besides like clear eyes and visine, is there anything that can be used to get rid of red eye?

Just blame it on your contacts.

Also, if you don't wear contacts, say you took them out because they started hurting your eyes.

get your eyes really wet with tap water. they will go very red at first, but then it will subside.

i've never heard of tap water working. do you think it would depend on what minerals are in the water used, or is water just good for red eye no matter what?

well the thing is, it could very well be due to minerals in the tap water differing from here in sydney to any other city (let alone suburbs within sydney). but it works here. not heaps effective (wont make fully shot eyes go pearly white like cleareyes etc can), but makes a huge difference when you consider the paranoia some people experience over their eyes

but i honestly think its due to the water.

funny thing is that one of the best solutions to redeye, is a hot -steamy- shower! (leave the fan off). people often mention a blame of water for redeyes, when ive found its the complete opposite. at the same time, i think one of the main factors perhaps in people not thinkning water works is because when you first get your eye wet, it definately goes red! but, ive tested it many times and it has pulled through, relative to the amount of steam in the room when having a shower. and it has crossed my mind that it could even be a placebo, but i doubt that, and that in the end, if its a placebo, its a damn good one to work!

on that note, not to throw my credibility out the window, but i SERIOUSLY have been able to make my eyes less bloodshot by concentrating on it in the mirror. this could be the effect of leaving your eyes stationary and open for an extended period of time, or a total mind trick

yeah, that last one kinda destroyed your credibility. =D

seems like cold water would work as a vasoconstrictor...but then why would steam work...

there needs to be a large-scale scientific study done on red eye.
