Hmm how do you go about picking a book in some library? I guess maybe starting from 1 row all the way down until you read all of them.

Depends on what kind of reading you're looking for. Even then, an author can have good books and bad books. My last comment was in response to reading every book there is in a library, you're better off asking the librarian than doing that.
