def new wave. if you were to ask them back when they were at cgbg's, they'd prolly have said new wave as well. punk was somewhat of an insult until record labels caught on. and in terms of today's music, they had much more of an influence on later new wave and dance bands than anything to do with punk. furthermore, they kinda sucked.
Blodie as punk I never thought of that concept i am not good with the label thing but i would never have thought punk well i like them but not that much
it's CBGB and yes, they were definitely part of the punk scene at the time, before they got a record deal. But I also think they helped start the whole new wave thing, and rap, too.
punk was about much more than just the music, dude. The music was just one small aspect of the whole punk thing. And yes, we called it a "scene" back then (and I wasn't old enough to be a punker until punk was in its death throws). Not sure what you youngsters might call it now, if you had anything remotely close to what punk was for us.
both punk and new wave....depending on what term you prefer... hehe but they were featured in "punk magazine" quite alot.
