Ok, my mate and I want to know if shrooms can cause any damage to the brain or body. Is it a dangerous drug physically in the short or long term? (Obviously excluding the stupid things you can do while using psychedelics).

    Thanks

there is no physical danger at all so long as you aren't a pregnant woman or on a medication that could potentially react negatively with your psychedelic of choice.

there are plenty of mental changes that can go along with using psychedelics, sometimes they can be troubling and sometimes not. the feebleminded and those prone to certain mental illnesses are the most likely to have negative mental consequences related to using psychedelics. these can include things like any number of disorders related to seratonin imbalances (these will generally be temporary to some degree or another, provided you stop using these types of drugs when the symptoms become apparent) or even early onset of latent disorders such as schizophrenia. for the most part these things can be predicted and avoided. if you have a family history of schizophrenia, depression, or anything else, it is usually unwise to take psychedelics unless it's with a qualified therapist in a therapeutic setting, rather than as a "recreational" or even "spiritual" drug.

much more likely is something like HPPD or mild, recurring sensations associated with tripping - both of these things can be called "flashbacks." neither are dangerous, just annoying and bothersome to some. it CAN interfere with daily life on occasion. most people never get this, but it IS possible, and you DO take risks when you take such drugs.
