I saw this video interview on Krishna Das's record company site...and its really really beautiful and I encourage you all to watch it.... http://chetan.sitestream.com/KrishnaDas.vsml?package=1842770&vsus=&vsps=&media=1935038
I've got a long drive this morning and this reminded me to bring along a couple of KDas's CD's...he's incredible...thanks for the link, will watch it later.
Thanks Nicole for posting this - I too like Krishnadas. The interview is well worth viewing Nice to hear of his time with Neem Karoli Baba.
Wow, what a great interview... thanks so much... for more stories about baba, "my" guru I have not yet heard... And I visited Krishna Das, and sang with him at a retreat with him and Ram Dass and Sharon Salzberg. It was great, chanting one night, I was went so deep into focused ecstasy, I just collapsed on the ground laughing uncontrollably, and had to be carried back to my room. the cosmic joke. wohoo!
Ahh...that sounds wonderful GP. I have been trying to see Krishna Das for 2 years...I have missed him twice....but I will see him eventually (I hope!). Glad you hear you had a great experience.
Nothings? I think not. Krishna Das music helps some people to tune into the inner Bhakti - it has a positive message of love and light. Unlike some I could mention.
::nods:: His music is a very important thing to me...it helps me to cope with saddness or anger when I have it by throwing it into singing...into the Divine...also, its been a great source of joy when one is happy (plus its quite good driving music! )
Still holy music or not, nothing compares to the cheering up power of the beatles. I know John said the beatles are bigger then christ, but they are also bigger then krishna... They even mentioned hare krishna in thier lyrics, "elementry penguin singing hare krishna" from I am the walrus. not to mention christ, "christ you know it ain't easy, you know how hard it can be, the way things are going, they are gonna crusify me" So this proves that the beatles are the saviors of mankind. dig?
It was the seventh post. 7 nothings. 7 Nadas. G Nadas. God Nadas. Krishna Das. Anyway, I enjoyed the video and the music in the background. It touched me and light is shown upon a memory.
I used to think the Grateful Dead were the 'saviours of mankind' - Long time ago. Most of the Beatles just bores me nowadays as I grew up with them, and I've heard it all too much. I still listen to George now and then - he's about my fave. 'Brainwashed' is a great album. McCartney I can't stand these days. He's too busy being 'Sir' Paul and sucking up to the establishment I feel. Also, when he said he wanted to redesignate the titles of some of the old tunes from 'Lennon & McCartney' to 'McCartney & Lennon' it just struck me as purile egoism of the worst type. Thank God for his ex-wife Lynda, whose veggie ready meal brand has helped me out many times.:sunglasse
Mm...I do have to say that the Beatles are def. awesome in comforting sometimes...hey...if not for them...I wouldn't even have heard of Krishna....so I agree to some degree...
Ganja and Nicole, It always makes me happy to hear much younger people say thay they appreciate the Beatles...and I hear this a lot. They are truly timeless in many ways but, like Bill, I grew up with them and very rarely listen, except for putting George on occasionally. Bill, agree, "Brainwashed" is great...George's second masterpiece, and a fitting spiritual legacy....and yes, Sir Paul is rather full of himself these days. I watched the Krishna das interview...Nicole, thanks again for posting.
::nods:: Brainwashed is def. my first and favourite George Harrison album (not that the others aren't amazing) and I agree about Paul...his solo music is a large turn off to me. ::shrug:: I am glad you enjoyed the Krishna Das video...thank you to BBB for suggesting that I post it here.
:sunglasse 'Brainwashed', 'All Things Must Pass' and 'George Harrison' are about my faves. But there's also songs he did on other albums which I like very much, and which for me have stood the test of time. I liked some of Sir Paul's stuff (wouldn't want to deprive his lordship of his title) with 'Wings' back in the 70's, but nothing much since then.
Brainwashed, All Things Must Pass, 33 1/3, and Somewhere in England are my favourites...but now Gone Troppo is growing on me indeed.
You can listen to 4 tracks from Krishna Das' new album from here - all Hare Krishna Kirtans! Great http://karunamusic.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=82057-2&Category_Code=KD Have to buy the CD now.
I've listened to them online a few times...they are lovely indeed. When I got my birthday gift certificate I ended up picking Door of Faith over All One (and as much as I like All One ...Door of Faith has been more inspiring to me than I can ever explain.)... But its a pretty good CD...I <3 the last one (the South African style one)
