Are you kidding me? People who died in 7/7 left families behind that have to be reminded of it when they see insensitive protests like that (I've already said that I think that the cartoons were disrespectful and insensitive also). He was trying to scare and intimidate innocent civilians like me and YOU Lithium.
We all know that suicide bombers and fanatics don't target the causers of these conflicts (Like Bush, or Blair, or Jyllands-Posten,) They target the innocent (Like the victims of 7/7, 9/11, the Madrid bombings, and Ken Bigley,).
You found the symbolism rather effective? To who? the victims families. I can't believe you're trying to justify this.

Implying that all Muslims are suicide bombers is offensive and disrespectful, but physically harmless. Dressing as a suicide bomber anywhere is a death threat! You have to be simple to not get that in this day and age. Death threats are illegal. Whether you want to see it or not, the two are NOT the same.

Oh shame on me - I suggested that people who walk the streets threatening death to those who insult islam, who wear "I (heart) Al Queda" hats, praise the "Fantastic Four" and warn of a 9/11 for Europe might be good candidates for the next wave of suicide bombers. And for that you make a cheap insinuation that I am racist?

Excuse me, but you're the one that is constantly making excuses here and treating Muslims like children who can't be held responsible for their own actions. Death threats are not illegal because they are 'offensive', they are illegal because they are death threats. Are you saying that the law should be amended so that people can make death threats? Tell the BNP they can start showing up at Pakistani owned shops and threatening their families with death if they don't pack up and go home to Lahore, its ok that is merely "offending their sensibilities".

This thread is horrible and very un-hippy!
If Hendrix had read it he'd slap us all up the face, and rightly so

Of course, even a brain-dead wildebeast could see that Jonny2mad's example at the start of the thread was a case of double standards. Doesn't matter if you're Christian, Muslim, Hindu, or Wildebeast; it's a case of double standards, pure and simple.

But nobody is really talking about an objective example of 'double standards' here. People, instead, are talking about their biases, prejudices, arguments, divisions, and all that boring stuff

But we can all save that stuff for www.wildebeast.com. There you have unlimited rights to act like a wildebeast!
While you're on the hippy forum, however, simplify things by acting like a hippy and actually getting on with your fellow human beings! :)

    *sighs*

    Peace and lurve

There are plans for a march against cartoons well at least three marches this month with different groups, one is planned to be 100,000 people and have the ken livingstons lord mayor of london and other islamophiles in support .

on one of the sites organising the anti cartoon protests they had a link to a protest against someone being taken hostage and they were proud to say 30 people had attended , free muslims had a protest against terrorism again they got less than 50.

and yet these what we are told are moderate groups throw all their effort into a campaign against cartoons .

the coming protests are supposed to vet the placards of the people taking part so we dont see the sort of placard that call on more terror attacks ,beheading and a general holocaust against non muslims , this is a shame really because at least people would get to see what the individuals feel like .

but Im sure they will have a political effect

    a new twist

FURIOUS Muslims have blasted adult shop Ann Summers for selling a blow-up male doll called MUSTAFA SHAG.
They complained that the novelty sex toy insults the Prophet Muhammad — who also has the title al-Mustafa.

The High Street chain’s jokey £15 mustachioed doll has a 7in manhood and is targeted at hen parties.

But the Muslim Association — based at Manchester’s Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre — branded him “obnoxious”.

Yesterday a spokesman said: “This is the name of our Prophet and it’s very upsetting. This thing should be banned.”

In a letter to the store, the Association said: “You have no idea how much hurt, anguish and disgust this obnoxious phrase has caused to Muslims. We are asking you to have our Most Revered Prophet’s name ‘Mustafa’ and the afflicted word ‘shag’ removed.”

Last night Ann Summers said: “If anyone has a better name, please let us know. We’ll happily change it.”

The row follows global furore over cartoons which depicted Muhammad as a terrorist.

    heres the doll http://perform.antville.org/stories/1028145/

Yeah, I saw that in the papers. See what I'm saying, if you give them in inch (no pun intended) they'll take a mile. It's always going to be like this, they'll get easily offended, overreact and the PC brigade will come thundering along and fight with them, and we'll cave in.

By Ebbe Dag Christensen, Dr. Med.

The latest development in the Middle East was the last straw for Ebbe Dag Christensen. He has returned the medal he received for participating in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, along with a letter to the Saudi ambassador.

To the Saudi ambassador of Denmark.

SUBJECT: Return of the decoration The Kuwait Liberation Star.

I hereby return the mentioned medal, as I under no circumstance wish to own a decoration from your country. I received the decoration for my participation in "Desert Storm" in 1991, as a volunteer in the British coalition forces.

A battle decoration is never easily earned, that is known by anyone who has tried something like that. Especially since ahead of the Gulf War of 1991, there was fear of up to 20,000 dead and wounded coalition soldiers.

I used to be proud to own a symbol indicating that I had participated actively in stopping a new Hitler-type in the Midlle East.

I have however, changed my mind. The immature, fanatical, primitive, and religiously fundamentalist reaction over the pretty innocent Muhammed drawings, which I have seen develop in the Arab countries over the last week, has been educational.

That the distance between the cultures is so big, and that Islam is permeated by such rabid, religious fascism, as we have seen in the last couple of days, show what we secularized societies in Western Europe in our naivité have allowed to take root in our countries.

    Pseudo Arguments
With pseudo arguments that the drawings offend all muslims, show a lack of respect for Islam, etc., etc., the Arab countries are now trying to impose on the freedom of speech in Denmark, a small country which by itself has little opportunity to fight back.

Can the threats turn around the popular opinion in Denmark? True that there is the usual "appeasement"-bunch. Former Marxists, who have finally found a new -ism to cling to, a few writers, politicians, and ambassadors - most of them with their futures behind them - and worst of all: unscrupulous merchants in industry and trade, who are willing to lick spit for the sake of money. They would all happily sell out our democratic heart-blood.

Even though they make a lot of noise, they represent less than 15% of the population, as the latest polls show.

    Imposing on Freedom
The Danes as such are well aware that you, mr. ambassador, represent a country without democracy, without political freedom, without freedom of speech, without the vote for women, and without freedom of religion, but with religious police, wahhabism, and sharia laws with cutting of hands, flogging (up to 300 blows in appropriate doses), stoning, and - as a fitting centrepiece - decapitation.

If your country did not have oil, it would be a primitive pariah state.

At present it can pay for everything from abroad; and by that I mean buildings, pretrochemical plants, water purification plants, hospitals, doctors, nurses, engineers, technicians, roadworkers, santation workers, servants, etc., etc.

Your own population does precious little, as I have come to know by my own experience.

From you so-called culture there is not much, if anything at all, that we in the West can use.

Now you and your country, along with a mob of many other Arab and muslim countries, which are all either real- or defacto dictatorships, want to decide how the Danish democracy is to administrate it's own freedom.

Denmark, a country with a dearly bought tradition of personal, political, economical, and religious freedom, with an industrious and hardworking population, shall not come under the darkness of wahhabism, or any other curious rules that come from your part of the world.

It will not happen, in spite of threats of violence, boycot of Danish goods, etc. Of that I can assure you.

It was a mistake by yours truly and tens of thousands more from the West, that we volunteered to defend your country and helped liberate Kuwait from Saddam Hussein and his gang. I can see that today.

I hereby return to you one piece of metal junk along with thanks for the loan.

Perhaps the metal can be re-cast into a little statue of the prophet, which you can place on your desk in the embassy.

    - Ebbe Dag Christensen

perhaps your ebbe dags and others can get your governments to cut all ties with all such countries where democracy and people's freedom are far from introductions. but wait, they're not ready to do it just yet eh! they'll support dictators and help'em kill the uprisins when the time is not right, for THEIR country

    A few small points:

    1. Churchill was a bastard. Of course he wouldn't have time for protesting Muslims, he didn't even have time for striking miners, preferring instead to have them shot. And Thatcher deserves precious little of the praise she receives.

    2. If Ann Summers had released a sex toy named after Jesus, do you or don't you think Christians would have complained?

    3. If I had met a guy on the streets of London giving out copies of the anti-Muslim cartoons (which is exactly what they were, let's not go calling this 'satire') I would have taken a whole pile off of him, ostensibly to pass them on and help him, then set fire to them right before his eyes before punching him in his idiotic, bigotted face. How is passing the offending cartoons around supposed to help the situation? This man was not defending freedom of speech, he was inciting hatred toward Muslims.

Finally, whatever your opinion of the man dressed as a suicide bomber, his actions send out a message. If our (western) society does not develop the tolerance and respect it so desperately needs to, then terrorist attacks will reoccur. We are not going soft on Muslims, it is simply that the majority of us are wise enough to know that in the current global political climate it just doesn't do to offend a people or a religion in Islam's situation. Sadly a few idiots think that directly confronting Muslim beliefs is the way to diffuse the situation. Democratic society thrives on tolerance. Those cartoons were intolerant. The Jerry Springer opera was not intolerant in that it was not a direct attack on the Christian Faith. And it is wrong to say that the Christian response to JS:TO was in any way more civilised than the recent Muslim response to these cartoons:

"Earlier this month the organisation [Christian Voice] forced Maggie’s Centres, a Scottish cancer charity, to turn down a £3,000 donation from the show [Jerry Springer:the Opera] by threatening to picket its premises."
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1502901,00.html

Preventing a cancer charity from receiving donations? Sounds a little unreasonable and OTT to me.

I haven't seen Jerry Springer: the Opera so I am not keen to comment on it (and will readily withdraw my earlier "not intolerant" remark if given a good enough reason), but to me it seems much more tame than the recent anti-Muslim cartoons. But of course, Jonny2mad hasn't seen JS:TO either, yet is very willing to discuss it like an expert.

Oh, I should make one final point...you are being very, very paranoid if you think we are going to end up with Sharia law in Europe.

The Muslim response has been to burn down embassies (with innocent people still inside) and place a bounty on the head of the Danish cartoonist.

I've personally heard of Muslim imams speak of a one Muslim nation.
