There is a free program called Wild Things that has a customizable applejack hat pattern. I use it to make fleece hats. :)

I sew hats like this...Applejack style with 6 panels but instead of a band that makes the hat only one size, I put an adjustable drawstring in the back so it will fit anyone and can be adjusted if you want your hair inside or down....plus it gives the hat a more funky slouch! and there's a pocket inside too. You could make the hat bigger by cutting the panel pattern in half and adding a few more inches that way. I use cereal boxes for patterns...it's easier to trace around and you can reuse it a bunch of times. Same pattern, with or without bill.
