yeah so I haven't ever been able to protest, mainly because I'm a dirty high school kid who the police can screw over when ever they feel like it, and arrest records don't look good on college applications so any advice, as a note i know some kids that got screwed by an off-duty cop for doin' some politicin at a rick santorum book signing
T-shirt slogans? As long as it isn't obscene, I can't see anyone whining too much. Also, if there's a large group protesting, it would be easier to disappear into the masses when the coppers show up. I agree, though. Especially nowadays, with the Shrub's reign, it's dangerous for a minor to protest the wrong things. Haven't tried it yet, but when I was a minor I had to worry that my parents wouldn't let me protest what I wanted. (We have opposite opinions, and they're required to be right.)
yeah i see your point man, iv been stoped by cops literally for walking down the street. around here atleast they seem to have preconvieved notions that anyone younger than 25 is up to something. atleast if you have long hair or spikes or anything not quite "normal" and they take any excuse to give you as much heat as possible. but just decide what your planning on doing and check out if it legal or not, if it is they cant do anything and if its not just be sure your willing to take whatever sentence you get for it.
I second the larger protest comment. Travel if you have to! protesting a book signing is about as silly as I've ever heard. Protesting HIM would be different... but that's an ineffectual use of energy. get on move on.org's list and they will notify you of events. then you network there. Also seek out progressive groups, even book clubs, because they are going to know what's going on, or know someone who does. a couple in HIghlands Ranch, 2/3 Republican, organized the Question Alliance. they go to one crossroads with signs that all bear the same question this is the most recent e-mail: Next action for: The Question Alliance Saturday, February 18, 2006 10-11:30 AM Corner of University & Highlands Ranch Parkway Topic: Truth in Government This action will try to address truth in government. Should the Bush administration be forthcoming about their actions and policies that affect our country? Is openness in government part of Democracy? Who gets to draw the line on secrecy and the public's right to know? For more information on this topic you can google: Bush administration and secrecy, Iraq War, torture, global warming, domestic spying, energy policy, medicare policy, Katrina, Jack Abramhoff, Halliburton, etc, etc, etc. Please remember that it is important to have the same exact wording on your sign. The exact wording for the question on February 18th is: Should we expect the truth from our government? Please bring family and friends to join The Question Alliance. All are welcome!! Children need to be supervised. This action will be postponed to February 25th if the weather is too nasty. You might want to make sturdy signs. It can get windy!
the cops have been so far unsucessful at tracking down my friends and i after a protest but have had an undercover almost bust us once......... it was great..... but if the cops ever show up my house.......... im dead
i protest any chance i get and im still in high school. although i almost got arrested in NYC last year but other than that its been fine. the peace club at my school is going back to NYC this march for a protest. at local protests theres a large number of college and high school students oh thats exciting. i met her at a protest a few months ago when she was in my neck of the woods. if you have the chance to meet and speak with her do it. the peace club at my school gave a speech about how we got military recruiters to be placed in the guidance office supervised instead of setting up tables outside of the cafeteria trying to get students to sign their friends up. we talked to her after everything was over and shes just awesome. have fun
I've definately been to my fair share of protests, many of which I attended while I was in High School. At my High School some of the teachers actually suggested that we go to anti-government rallies instead of class. I think they used it as an excuse to for them to go rally as well. I've also been to some rallies with my parents. If anyone arrests you on the basis of being young, that's unjustified discrimination.
I'm in high school and I wish i could protest....but nothing ever happens around here....It seems like nobody in this city cares about whats going on enough to try and voice themselves, unless they're unionized of course
Drew172 only needs one person to make a statement. You might be surprised how many follow if one will lead.
It's surprising, the extent of unfocused energy that people have. They know that something is wrong, they just might not be able to recognize it. But I think that if one person starts to protest anything, eventually, others will take notice and join. And there are so many ways to protest! The younger, the better--although radical protesting might be better off left to people with more experience and knowledge of the thing being protested. Maybe for now, younger protestors should limit themselves to learning and then spreading the know to other young people. And then...protest graduation?
i understand the whole "there aren't any here" thing... im in a like situation it would seem, and on top of that i am as of yet car less, and therefor would have no way to get to anything even if there was something, let alone organize it myself.
Protest the legal way. Get a fucking permit, and then don't worry about the police. How the hell do you think Phelps and assholes like him get away with their shit?
pff... ive been arrested at a protest before. let me go without charge. but its not the worst thing that can happen
because even permit gatherings can be disrupted by the city's finest! thanks, hippypaul. one Q about yer sig: Denmark, or the editors that ran the cartoons?
