"what's the matter with kids these days."Bye bye Birdie
I'd say that half or our older generation would turn in their survival gear for a cold beer.Where will one be when the bullets run out? We're all dependent on modern ways, young and old.Our computers are our video games. When the end comes, whoever is left will die and the revolution will be complete.Other than that good morning and good life.

...and we wouldn't be eating deer.we'd be eating people.Easier to catch, especially the fat ones.

Gate, I personally will not be choosing human flesh for my main course.. I have educated myself in other organic means of nutrition, but there ya go, how would one protect themselves from the mutant canibals that may stalk us as prey..

Tiger Beat! Now THAT was a magazine! Glad you reminded me, Gate... somehow I forgot that peerless intellectual review.

I wonder where all the heavy thinkers and pundits got to that used to write for it.

Oh. That's right... they're writing policy papers for the Democrats in Congress..

    How silly of me.

I've spent my whole life learning about this survival stuff, and I'm gonna be darned dissappointed if I don't get to try it all out before too long! But seriously, I think things have already started. It ain't probably gonna come overnight and with a bang, at least we hope not! I think we can all agree that things are gettin' a little crazier all the time, and there are more people hollerin' a little louder all the time about how they want it to change. That's the beginnings. So all you folks who are waitin' for something to happen, it already is, so find somewhere to put your energy and jump in heart and soul. Only you know what part you can play...

Oh, we'll be using survival gear-- namely, guns and ammo. And, not for killing deer--there ain't enough to go around. No, we'll be using guns to kill the marauders who will come storming out of the cities to loot the suburbanites.

3 days of no water, food, drugs, heat, electricity, air-condioning, etc. will be enough to set the horde moving, like crazed but deadly lemmings.

The National Guard, the police? Get real--they have families, too, and will be looting with the best of them.

Apocalypse soon. I hope I'll be dead by then, but I doubt it. It's my fate-- I dream it now and again.

    A civil war.

    I'm as serious as AIDS.

    Stock up.

The only thing I'll thank Lyndon for, is not running for a second term. When the news hit the late edition of The San Francisco Examiner, I was dancing down Haight Street. A few weeks later, King was killed, and I was running down Fillmore St., where I lived (the heart of the ghetto), for my life. Very soon, I hitch-hiked back to good ole NYC., where the ghetto was 166 blocks away.

Don't hold dear more than you can carry at a dead run. The Maginot line is the best example of staying put to be over run. Of course this thread has gone from eating deer to eating people and I won'y stand in line for a plate full of either, but it has been fun to read, Evolution has taught that it is he generalist and not the specialist that survive cataclysm. Learn all that you can but learn to do it with your hands and not just your mind. There is no learning if the hands are nor involved....my two cents worth.

you don't have to thank the man,all he did was put food on your plate and make sure you have the bare neccesities of life with a little left over for your booze. How can one be a true conservative yet accept government assistance?I think you're truly a liberal demacrat,if not in words,in actions.

Ghetto is a new york term, out here everybody's just pretty well mixed up,our biggest fear are the tweakers and for the most part they're pretty lame

When I lived in SF, I can assure you that the Fillmore District was a ghetto-- mostly black. I don't know about now.

I remember the Filmore Dist.. it was in fact 99% black and very dangerous as was the T.L. One did not venture out into these districts alone or unarmed. The black communities did not like hippies, which were mainly middle class white children/young adults. They did however like the young 'hippy chicks' that would sell their souls for a fix after being turned out on a street corner. There were not many black hippies that I remember, I can count the ones I saw in the Haight on my fingers, compared to the thousands of young white kids that covered the nine block raidus of the Haight and that filled the park..
But yes a Ghetto it was in them dazes.

Once again, ShamelessHeifer has it right-- aside from Jimi Hendrix and maybe a stray cat left over from the Beat scene and the blacks that lived there, Haight-Ashbury was mostly a white scene.

NYC was different-- more black dudes, but still, not a lot. No black chicks at all on either scene. And certainly, no Puerto Ricans-- they TRULY hated us.

Now, this ought to get me all sorts of outraged replies, but it's true. I once asked a NYC chick why white girls would sometimes date black dudes, but never Spanish. She said Spanish guys come on too lame with all their macho posturing.

All right, all you politically-correct numb-skulls-- fire away!

?and white guys have little dicks.Who cares what some unknown ny "chick "thinks it has no bearing on reality. There's as much prejudice on the white side of the fence. No they probably didn't like the rich white kids who were sluming it in their city, yet could go home to suburbia at any time, making a game out of what they called life.Sure scam them a little they could get more from mommy.

There may have been a lot of them kinda chickies around, but the women I knew were on a different level of consciousness and were reasonably responsible. I met a few wild ones but they didn't stay long at the communes. I only knew one rich one that I can remember or knew about at the time.
I never called home for money, even tho I would have gotten it. Not bc my parents were rich but bc they loved me. I worked for money.. I would sometimes dance at the Follies on Mission or sling drinks for tips in North Beach. There were ways of making a few bucks.. We'd all go down to the wineries and test wine for 50$ and a bunch of wine to drink for free or sell blood..I never did sell blood but I knew a shitload that did.
Them were some strange daze them were..

thats the point,we could leave, they couldn't.If we were responsible,we took the jobs and then we left and went home. Most of the blacks were hard working people, with the influx of the hippies social services were spread thin, jobs were scarcer, rents went up, the streets were more crowded, and there we were pretending to understand their plight. Now we condemn them and complain about ghettos...
