Hey so it took me a couple months to get around to it, but I finally got myself a Diva cup and I must say...I love it. The first day I was ready to run out to the store and get some tampons. It was just too weird and I wasn't sure I'd be able to get used to it. But I stuck with it and quickly learned how to insert it properly, take it out, etc. It doesn't dry me out or irritate me the way tampons do and I can't feel it at all when it's in. I was nervous that it would either slide up too far, or collapse and leak, but it did neither. It stayed in place the entire time, through hikes and sleep. I'm really happy with it.

cloth pads rule! I have noticed less heavy flow, and much less cramping since I switched. Plus there are major dangers in using any bleached paper product, especially so close to such a sensitive area of your body. Chlorine bleach has been linked to dioxin. Dioxins are the single most toxic substance known to man (aka "agent orange"). When chlorine reacts with carbon (organic matter of any sort) dioxins are formed. Dioxins have been conclusively linked to auto-immune and reproductive disorders, such as endometriosis. I have endo. I would do anything at all to minimize my risk of it getting worse any faster than it's going to anyway.

Anyway, I like the stretchy hemp pads made by Mom and Me Creations. Much more absorbent than cotton. But there are literally hundreds of WAHM websites selling similar products.

I think it's www.mom-and-me-creations.com If you have a baby, their hemp diapers are made of absolutely the most absorbent, softest hemp fabric you can imagine! And it's the same fabric in their mama cloth. Doesn't get hard or scratchy like most other hemp fabrics, either.

    Oh perfect! Thank you~

Do you have a heavy flow? I often do, at least for the first couple days, and I would be concerned about the blood leaking through.

I have found the cloth pads way more effective for heavy period flow than the 'normal' disposable pads, cant compare to tampons because I dont use them. The cloth pads I am talking about (Rad Pads) I am sure they are the same as your american brands, they have different size inserts for heavier days, and some can be longer size for if you wear them at night. If I were you I would definately give them a go, even substituting them for some of your days of your cycle is better than nothing. Here is a link to the aussie site to give you more info

I have extremely heavy flow, and I only use the inserts. I can't wear anything waterproof down there, and wool is too itchy. With disposable pads, I have to change them at least every hour, every half hour on my first day, or I will overflow them, even the extra long super overnight kind. The cloth pads I use (and the others I have used) are thinner, more comfortable, and at least twice, if not three times as absorbent, plus I have a lighter flow since I switched to cloth. I have never had any leaks or soaking all the way through, ever, not even with post-baby lochia!

yes, they are hazardous to your health. Not immediately, but those sorts of toxins build up in your body, stored in your fat cells, causing very scary long-term effects. Anything bleached with chlorine is especially dangerous. You really don't want to know what it's like to have endometriosis, I know you don't because I do have it. There is no cure.

I got myself the diva cup (keeper actually) as well! I'm sooo glad I did it! it was quite expensive but hey I won't have to buy anything any more for the next 10 years!
I'm still practising with getting it in and out properly but it isn;t as hard as I imagined, yesterday I didn't even feel it, right now I do but I'm too lazy to move it a bit.. I also love the fact that you hardly ever have to empty it, I took it out after 6 hrs and it wasn't even half full and it was the first, heavy day of my menstruation! I also love the fact that it doesn't contain bleech or god-knows-what and that it doesn't take all the fluids from your vagina. plus no more bloody shit to dump in the container, ever again. it's easy, reliable, cheap in the end and better for your health and the environment, yes, this thing is my new god.
    amen!

Bad/Sad question. I was wondering if the diva/keeper is easier to keep in place than a normal tampon? I have had a load of trouble with tampons after having kids (no matter how many pelvic floor exercises i do) They slip down in a big hurry and are not comfortable. Just wondering if the cups sit better? I am thinking at least i can adjust them better/more often.

I didn't have a baby, but the cup is rather big (a tampon is really slim, this thing isn't..). plus it comes in two sizes, one for women who've had a baby!
