I got the idea for this in the "whats your story?" thread, with Heron talking about his obvious affinity for the Heron, which i should add is a beautiful bird. When I was very young I saw an Albatross flying off the coast over the Southern Ocean, I was in awe of this amazing creature. Dad told me that it probably had come all the way from Antarctica. Reading about totem animals as a Teenager and being a bit of a loner I decided that the Albatross should be my guide...solitary flights over the cold ocean, through wind, rain and storms....just beautiful!
well i guess mine is an obvious choice and id say 'the cat' ive always had such a storng connection with cats but its too obvious so maybe i should look deeper. what do you think?
People in Aboriginal cultures traditionally went on spirit quests (a lone trek into the wilderness for days at a time) to find their totem animal or sometimes it was given to them at birth. I think cats are amazing animals...its a very loose ideology, the way i see it if you want to make the cat your animal then do it. I never put much thought into the Albatross
and, by "just doing it cuz it feels good and right" you're also following a very cat-like ideology! I've put a bit of thought into this subject, and no single animal has felt particularly right as my totem. I've always had an affinity for every creature, and maybe that's my problem. I always remember my dreams and visions, and though animals are always around, none has ever stood so far out to be considered a singular guide. I guess maybe my totem animal is anything with eyes....
A wolf...... She comes in the form of a beautiful Blue Wolf. She is my main spirit guide. I have others, but I'll only name one more....the whale
On time i had an amazing expireince with a Hawk, Ive definitley held it dear as a medicine animal, totem animal, spirit guide, whatever you want to call it. I was walking in the woods, and right at the trail head a Hawk was circling and throwing out its piercing cry.. i took notice and kept walking, knowing that this was a message.. as i moved on down the trail, the massive hawk, swooped thourhg the trees along side of me. I stopped, and inside my bag, i had a book of animal medicine readings, and i looked at hawk, which was "messenger of the gods" i took notice of what hawk might be telling me. It was very powerful, i kept walking taking notice of all the small details, and smiling, I ended up stopping on some rock cliffs, bordering a vast calm lake, I meditated a little and began to read. At some point i looked up and saw something in the distance, It was the Hawk! Flying straight towards me, and swooped right over my head.. int he following years hawks of been very close to me, when i see them, i know their messege to be potent... Another few of mine are, The Skunk, the Blue Whale, and the Blue Jay
a deer. i always had dreams about em, and once i started my sufi-shamanic study it became pretty clear.
Better not come near my tree stand next year, lovelightlisa! I'd hate to shoot a nice 10 point buck and walk up and see you lying there.
