My friend is 6 weeks pg, she's recently noticed that her nipples are getting dry and peel-y. She asked me to ask you guys if this is normal or should she be worried?
    Hope you can help! :&

tell her to stop washing her breasts with soap. Just let the water run over them in the shower. There are montgomery glands (those bumps in the areola) that produce oils. The oils are necessary to keep the nipples soft and supple. Soap, or worse, scrubbing with a washcloth removes the oil that her nipples need.

She can use some chapstick or lansinoh (lanolin specially marketed for breastfeeding mothers) on her nipples to help them heal.

Yep, mine did that too... the chapstick worked pretty well :) I tried lansinoh, only to rash out. But most mamas like that just as much.

    love,
    mom
