$11.9 billion cut from the federal student loan budget. Now more kids who can't afford college will have to join the military to get financial assistance for school. (At least until they cut financial assistance for veterans even more!) All they have to do is survive their time in Iraq or Afghanistan (or Iran, Syria, North Korea, whatever) and their future is assured!:)

Our government is brilliant, killing two birds with one stone! They help reduce the deficit AND they increase enlistments in our noble war on terror! Who needs a draft?

Another triumph of American ingenuity! [IMG]

$120 billion to be spent on Iraq this year. Maybe young Americans should go to college in Iraq. :)

I’ve said many times that the US seems to have shyed away from a welfare state in favour of a militaristic society.

Education, health and pensions for the poor are still being paid for by the state but only it goes through the military first.

But a society geared for war not the welfare of its people is heading for trouble.

This sounds like another step in the wrong direction.
