ive been thinking about getting my tongue pierced but i have some questions....how long does your tongue stay obviously swollen for? how long before you can kiss someone? is there anyway to make it less noticible for say when i am working or dealing with my 'rents?
the only way to make it less noticable, is if u dont talk at all or not a whole lot.. yeah.. im no help, oh well
well, the swelling depends on a few things. one, depends on how your body resonds to it. some people hardly swell at all, and it goes down in a day or two. and some people stay swollen for a week. two, healing methods will make a difference. if youre using straight listerine, it will seriously piss off the piercing. alcohol = very bad idea. three, diet. if you eat lots of spicy food, this will also irritate the area. ibuprofen is an anti-inflamitory. so if you take about 600mg of ibuprofen, it will greatly reduce discomfort and swelling for about 6 hours. kissing: as a general rule, i suggest no necking for about 3 weeks. you would not let somebody spit in an open wound, this is essentially what you would be doing with a fresh piercing. noticability (is that a word? haha) : when you cough or yawn, cover your mouth. get it pierced as far back as possible. it shouldnt really effect speach a whole lot. when people cant talk with them, theyre either to afraid to move their tongue, or theyre in to much discomfort. so if you keep up on the ibuprofen, it should help. good luck
I never found the actual piercing hurt when I was getting it done.People tend to over exgarrate the pain!It was more uncomfortable then anything, but everyone is different and handles pain differently. When I got my tongue done,it took about a week to heal.My tongue swelled alot and I talked with a lisp.I couldn't eat solids for a week because it was too weird!I lived off of yogurt.I also never took any pain killers,I already hav trouble swallowing pills and with metal in my mouth it was harder.I used ice tho, which did ease the discomfort. You have to rinse your mouth, but don't use alcohol based mouthwashes...I used "Biotene", which has no alcohol and is gentle.
I got my tongur pierced a week afo 1. Mine was swollen for 2 days 2. I kissed my boyf after 5 days but only coz i couldnt see him sooner lol ...its no problem. 3.its gunna be noticeable
hey i have had my tongue done for 6 months now and i love it well i felt no pain when it was done i did kiss my girl frend within the first 5 min i had it done took a few hours of making out to get use to it i did not talk with a lisp well not that anyone outher than me could tell and my tongue didnt really swell up and i ate soon after to just thought i should shair that one thing that helped me was a i bprofin befour i got it done and i had a big gulp after to help swelling was told to by the pericer.
When i got my tongue pierced, the piercer did it freehand-meaning no clamps were used. I stuck my tongue out, he made the marks, asked me if it looked good....then I sat there. And sat there some more. Then my piercer started to laugh and told me to put my tongue back in my mouth. I didn't even realize he had pierced me! I was starting to get mad cause it was taking so damn long! I didn't swell at all, and my speech wasn't really affected, although when I changed the inital barbell out for a shorter one, it was a hell of a lot more comfortable. My mom didn't even notice the barbell until about 2 months had passed, and that was only because I stuck my tongue out at her-by that point I forgot the piercing was even there. Use biotene, dont make out for a while and stay away from chewing gum for a while...gum is kinda tricky, and it gets stuck to the barbell at first-weird.
I'm on my third day now, and it's still pretty swollen and sore. The actual piercing didn't hurt a bit though. Like someone else said..it's just uncomfortable. Has anyone else had problems with the tip of their tongue hurting alot afterwards?? That is bothering me more than anything right now, and I can't figure why. Maybe when he clamped it??
after i got mine done, my whole tongue hurt. both of mine went through both of the muscles in my tongue though. its probably just sore from the swelling and the inital trauma. it should subside in the next few days. ibuprofen will help.
Yeah..I'm doing the ibuprofen thing. It really does help. Thanks..I kinda feel better now. I was gettin' a little worried. I'd hate to mess up my goods..
yes. you can make it less noticable. they make clear balls for the barbells, or you could get a retainer that you put in for work that is clear. i wouldn't recommend the retainer for at least a month or two after its pierced though, but you could change to a clear ball after a week or two depending on how fast your piercing heals.
Ok I saw this and had to say something... I had my tongue pierced in July of '05, and it was a rather 'pleasant' experience considering (if I may add).. My tongue was sore for a few days, then it wasn't really.. You just have to get used to it.. May I add before you do it go and eat your 'last meal' if you will... because once you get it done it's not easy to eat a decent meal... 1)Tongue Swelling: Like some of the folks have already said it depends on how your body takes it.. My tongue didn't swell at all.. On the other hand my friends tongue swelled up big time.. .. 2) Kissing: I guess it would depend on if you felt up to it or not, I mean you could do it right after you get it done if you wanted to lol.. and 3) If you are trying to hide it.. don't talk a lot and don't open your mouth wide or else they'll see it.. and for heavens sakes don't play with it. (you probably know that.) .. Ok anything else you want to know.
You actually shouldn't kiss or give oral until it is healed. Any bacteria or salvia or other juices can harbor infection.Afterall it is an open wound in your mouth! So you should wait until it is healed...the piercing heals rather quickly tho...
(Im just going by my experience here). My piercing was quite bruised and it may seem to get worse for the first two to three days.. It was swollen for about 9 days.. I found it kinda hard to talk. Sucking on an ice cube helped.. mine was fully healed after 12 days.. I was told by my piercer to NOT put anything dirty in my mouth such as fingernails, pens, etc. and to refrain from oral sex for the first 10-14 days, this includes kissing even if you are in a monogamous relationship. My mom noticed my tongue ring the first time I spoke to her.. My dad didnt notice for a couple months... But no matter what they are gunna find out, inless you keep your mouth SHUT around them 24/7.
I believe it depends on the person, my tongue when i got it pierced was swollen for 6 days. How far up is it on your tongue?
yes it depends, i cant actually tell u how long it will stay swollen. u CAN NOT make out with anyone or have oral sex for 14 days which is 2 weeks, if u do u tongue will be badly infected, to hit it from u parents u need to by a retainer, which is just a clean pieace of plastic which is basically a plastic barebell, and u cant see it at all. u can by the retainers at the piercing place for atleast 10 dollars.
"u CAN NOT make out with anyone or have oral sex for 14 days which is 2 weeks, if u do u tongue will be badly infected" this is not true if you look after it and clean it it will not become infected from making out or oral sex just clean you mouth after and you will be fine i speek from experance ha couldent waint more that 2 hours to make out with my gf but yes it would make it more likley to get infected if you didnt clean it but so would anything u put in your mouth if you dont clean after
Ok,,,Youre tongue is the strongest muscle in your body so pokin a hole through it is gonna aggravate it, but the swelling should go down in one or two days and not be noticable at all with in four or five. Use your mouthwash after everything you do,,,you eat you rinse,,, you drink,,,you rinse,,, you smoke ,,, you rinse,,,lemme tell ya,, if you get it infected ,, it sux,,,, as for kissing,,,Go ahead as long as it doesnt hurt you,,,, and RINSE after,,,for the first month,,, Rinse rinse rinse rinse rinse,,,,,,,
My tongue didn't swell at all. It was a little sore an hour or so after the initial piercing, but I also ate spicy pizza. Haha. I didn't kiss anyone for about 2 weeks....mine healed just fine. If you're under 18, pro piercers won't pierce you. If you're over 18 and you're still worried about your parents seeing the piercing....grow up and stop being a pansy.
