Okay, at the risk of looking like an idiot, I have a question. I've been reading the forum and I see people talking about there being a difference between "high", "stoned", and a few other descriptions. I always thought high and stoned were the same. What makes them different and which weed makes you throw up? I noticed someone said something about that and I've never had weed make me throw up, in fact, just the opposite. I wanna be so blitzed I hardly know where I am but I don't wanna throw up and I only smoke weed. Advice experts c'mon I'm counting on y'all! I don't want to act like a first timer when I go :&

"High" makes you feel full of energy and ready to accomplish things, whatever they may be.

"Stoned" makes you feel sedated and lethargic and not necessarily wanting to accomplish anything other than kicking back and enjoying your buzzzzzz.

If you end up getting sick or feeling like you're gonna pass out or puke it usually has to do with lack of blood sugar. Drink a Coke, eat a candy bar or even a few packets of sugar and you should come out of it fairly quickly.

Don't overdo it, ask the budtenders advice and you should be fine.

    Have a grande trip!

We...my wife and I...are off to the Dam for Valentines and we are aiming for that 'Happy Medium' of High, yet stoned. Enough energy to sample the city itself, but at the same time we want to be a few inches off the floor.
We don't see the point in blitzing one's brain to the point of comatose...can't see any enjoyment in not knowing what's going on.

I've never thrown up smoking weed just on it's own but seen plenty of
tourists around A'dam central who have, usually alcohol related or cocktail
    of the two, lightweights.! lol

Saying that though, some weed can be poorly cured or inadequately flushed
which can make you gag. Personally, and this just my choice after years of
experience, I prefer marijuana over hash as it gives me more of a ''rush'',
heart racing, rapid buzz (high), where hash just locks me into one position
(stoned), vacuous of thought and non-chalant, does that make much sense.?

Also, to a certain extent you know exactly where you stand with a nice
nugget of grass but some hash (flat-bread) you don't know what else is
mixed with it. Some hash can be harsh to the throat, imo, but grass is usually
    smooth in comparison.
This all a personal view, btw.

    High = from sativa weed
    Stoned = from indica weed

The difference is in an extra chemical in the last group. Most weed is a mix and will make you stoned and high at the same time. High is the up, stoned is the 'down'. Both are nice by the way.

Coffeeshop De Prijs sells good hash btw some hash in amsterdam is still really good (especialyl compared to the soapbar in england)

And I never trew up from smoking hash/weed, most of my friends never did. But then again I didn't trow up for 8 years so I guess it doesn't say much.

But still why would smoking make you puke? I smoke daily and I never do.

Soapbar, that brings back memories, can't believe people
still buy that shit, I hate the stuff, I only touch grass myself.
Only 8 days left until I'm in A'dam again sampling the weed
    all over again. lol...

I have only smoked weed for 30 years. High and stoned are the SAME THING.

However the 15 year old girl is correct. Smoke just a little Sativa during the day and save the indica for last smoke of the day. The sativa is generally more social and energetic. At the same time, some say it will cause more parinoia then the indicas. Personally, I like the hazes during the day. But even they will lay you out if you smoke to much.

I beg to differ about the high vs stoned debate but agree that too much haze will lay you out :)

my understanding is that the non-THC CBD's (thats cannabinoids besides THC) in the bud controls the high vs stoned spectrum.

upon this understanding the THC in a pure form should produce an uplifting energetic high.

mind you, it is not the amount of THC that controls the high vs stoned spectrum. this is evident because plenty of indica strains contain an equal amount or greater amount of THC when compared to sativa plants.

and I gotta say that I have performed a very top of the line controlled scientific experiment every night for the past 9 months..............

vaporizing the same ganja produces a much more uplifting HIGH then smoking the same ganja. of course that may also suggest that the carcinogens produced during the combustion process that SMOKING requires could contribute to a lethargic quality. But by the way people smoke cigarettes and never complain about a cigarette making them tired, I think the contribution would be minimal at best. So once again I propose that the other CBD'S are the key!

Ok, so I know its not that scientific :)

Heres part of a dj short article that explains the up/down high/stoned thing:

    Spectrums of experience

The first spectrum to consider is the "up and down" experience. "Up" refers to the stimulating aspects of cannabis, while "down" refers to sedative qualities. Up pot tends to liven the disposition and stimulate the emotions, inspiring sociability and talkativeness. Down pot tends to produce sedative and depressant effects. Some people refer to stimulating pot as being a "head" high and sedative pot as being a "body" high, yet although partially true this is also misleading.

Body and head highs are the next spectrum of the cannabis experience. Generally speaking, head highs are stimulating and body highs are sedative, but not all are. Some body highs are stimulating and some head highs are depressing. I once sampled a terribly paranoia-inducing head pot that inspired great couch lock qualities. I called it Boo-Goo.

Early to late harvest will affect the head to body spectrum expressed by a certain plant, with the later harvest tending to produce more body and sedative effects. However, I believe that certain aspects of this spectrum to be genetically inherited.

Next to consider are aspects of duration. Some cannabis tends to be short-acting (15-30min) whereas other varieties last much longer (6-7 hours). Once again production, harvesting and curing techniques can influence aspects of this spectrum, but much of this effect is inherited.

For me, the most important aspect of the cannabis experience to consider is tolerance. This refers to the product's ability to provide the same experience via the same amount over time – the burnout factor. By "over time" I mean the long run: months, years, decades...

Most of the cannabis I see on the market today has a terrible tolerance factor – a quick burnout time with the product's novelty lasting less than a week. Luther Burbank's model of breeding needs to be employed here and no expression of tolerance to your product is to be tolerated. An example of where intolerance to tolerance is tolerated – enough already!

Another aspect of tolerance is "ceiling." This refers to how high (or far) one is capable of going with the variety. How many hits can you consume until more hits are unnoticeable? Most indicas have a low ceiling of less than 10 hits. For me that's usually around 5 hits in one smoking session. If I smoke more than 5 hits of a strong indica I will either not notice the post-ceiling hits, or I will fall asleep.

Some sativas have a very high ceiling, or seem to have none at all! This means that the more you consume, the higher and further you go. Oaxaca Highland Gold, Black Magic African, and Highland Thai were some of the herbs I've tried with very high or no ceiling.

The final aspect of mental effects to consider when sampling strains for breeding is the tendency to produce anxiety. Certain strains of cannabis increase anxiety while others decrease it. This is also true for other emotions, which some strains may suppress while others may augment their intensity. Generally stimulating and head varieties are the ones that can produce unwanted anxiety, but this is not always the case. Quickly cured buds or an over-early harvest are contributing factors to anxiety-increasing pot, but this trait is also genetic in nature.

    Tastes and tasters

The physical palates of cannabis add another dimension to the equation. Taste is an important factor toward determining the desirability of most cannabis. The range of flavours expressed by the genus cannabis is extraordinary. No other plant on the planet can equal the cacophony of smells and tastes available from cannabis. This fact alone should interest researchers from several fields.

The range of possible smells and tastes a human can experience is large and complex. To date, no-one has created a fully usable olfaction chart, but Ann Noble developed a nifty "aroma wheel" for the wine industry, which inspired me to develop a cannabis olfaction chart. Like Ann's wheel, more basic aroma categories like "fruity", "floral", "spicy" and "pungent" go in the centre, and branch out into more specific aromas. So beneath "fruity" goes "berry" and "citrus", and beneath "citrus" is "lemon", "lime" and "orange".

The main cannabis aromas are: woody, spicy, fruity, earthen, pungent, chemical and vegetative – a wide range indeed. More specific aromas include pine and cedar under "woody", musty and dusty for "earthen", blueberry and mango under "fruity", and many others. Most aromas are possible through some combination of strains. Many of these strains were best expressed and acclimated when they were grown outdoors in their region-of-origin, or homeland.

Note that aroma and flavour vary between various stages of the plant. The aroma of a live bud on the plant, a dried and cured bud, and the smoke on the inhale and exhale, may all be different from each other. My number one goal when breeding cannabis is the quality of the perfectly matured, trimmed and cured bud and the experience it provides.

I strongly recommend the use of "tasters" to help analyze the qualities of a given smoke. I prefer highly educated, seasoned and critical elders as they tend to be the most helpful in their analysis and feedback. If there is the slightest drawback to the product, such as arrhythmia, tachycardia, paranoia, or what have you, the experienced elder taster will be the first to notice it. By the same token, if a product is exceptionally fine, the experienced elder taster will also likely be among the first to fully appreciate this. Besides, the elders always appreciate good medicine.

The best way to educate and train the palate is through experience. Unfortunately, there has been a great depletion of variance among the product available to the public. Most grow-ops focus on quantity over quality, and as a result a general blandness has developed. In future articles I will describe some of the great region-of-origin varieties that were available twenty years ago, describing their aroma, flavour, effects, and growth patterns.

This is the part that really supports my line of thinking........
As plants move from "peak maturity" to being "past peak maturity" THC resin glands go from being opauqe and full of THC to rupturing, browning, and reverting or chemically breaking down altering the THC vs CBD ratio. If you think about this practically, besides the obvious genetic role it would explain why you don't get as many sedative sativas. Simply speaking a sativa takes longer to flower and the grower is less likely to let it go past "peak maturity" where as a 6-8 week flowering indica would be more likely to be allowed to grow a week or two past peak!

    Thanks for the quote spacedoubt!

I agree on this one fully, that's why I said earlier that poorly cured weed or
a batch that has been grown hydroponically that has not been flushed
properly can be attributed to the stuff that makes you feel like being sick
or wanting to gag. Catching the optimum peak harvest time makes a whole
difference between getting ''high'' or getting ''stoned''. Properly cured buds,
that's what I try to look for, not overly matured buds but buds that are just
right for harvesting, the high is better and less of a couchlock with buds that
    have gone pass their peak.

Nice one, posting that quote spacedoubt, ;)
interesting thread it's all turned into.

    Couldn't agree more.

Not always but sometimes you can smell mould (ammonia) if it hasn't been
cured correctly. Curing removes the unpleasant green taste allowing the
resins and cannabinoids to finish ripening. And drying is simply the removal
of water ut if it's done wrong or too quickly the green taste will be sealed
into the tissues. Sometimes you can smell it, just like the way a wine taster
smells and describes the grape before tasting it, experienced pot smokers like
to smell the buds, well I do, that's why I never buy pre-bagged deals, I like
to smell and pick the specific Buds I want. Apart from that, there's no fail
safe way just by looking you have to spark a joint up and taste it and hope
the batch you have is good, but it does also involve a bit of smelling, looking
and feel of texture, etc. It all comes with years of experience.
Oh and White Widow is always a personal favourite I like to pick up when
    there from a decent coffeeshop.

    Have a good one[IMG]

    actually mold = ammonia smell

too much nitrogen in bud (when plant not flushed properly) = hay smell

Jezus!!! just smoke some cannabis. Don't make a science out of it.
I live in Amsterdam and just smoke everything. It doesn't mather what you smoke. You will get spaced out anyway.
