I just started that Slim-Fast shakes diet. I'm supposed to replace two of my day meals with two shakes.. im having the vanilla and chocolate one to see how it goes. I just started yesterday. Any experiences on it?
From what I've studied the shakes realy are not very good for you. You might be better off spending the slim cash on a visit to a dietician. How much weight are you looking to loose? What is your exercise like?
why are they bad for me? I'm trying to lose around 100lbs. I dont do much exercise cause i have a heart condition and i can't force it. I can walk tho.
Walking is very good. The reason the shakes arn't so hot is because they often contain sugars and oils, and not much by way of the micro-nutrients your body needs. but this is what i recall I'd need to read the lables again.
I can see how the convenience of the shakes would be appealing, but you'd be SO much better off eating real food--food with enzymes, fiber, nutrients, all that good stuff. If you're really set on using the shakes then I at least recommend only replacing one meal a day with it.
They're carb laden, and they cause people to eventually need gall bladder removal in more than a few cases, esp. if you're female.
that sounds bad, what did u mean? im sorry sometimes i dont understand English terms cause this is not my native language, can u explain that a lil betteR=?
I've used those things before, and let me tell you, I thought I was going to rip my hair out I was so dang hungry afterwards. I was starving!
i knowww. i thought it was only me :S i've ben starving a lot but i thought that was like me cause im used to eat like an animal. oh shit, how long did u take them?
The slimfast diets are a semi-starvation diet, which is why you are having hunger pains. Once you stop the shake regimen, you gain your weight back. Diets like these are doomed to fail because it hurts to starve yourself, and you just can't keep that up forever. If you want to lose weight permanently, safely and improve your health at the same time then you need to change your lifestyle. Healthy diet with moderate exercise is the best way to go. First you need to change the composition of your foods. Eliminate all foods high in fat, and center your meals on a starch with lots of vegetables. Your calories should come mostly from carbohydrate in the form of starch, with fat under 10% of total calories. For exercise, a brisk walk in the park will do just fine. If you have any questions just let me know.
I didn't last long. I think maybe 3 days and I said the heck with it. And fifty9 is right. Any weight you lose will be gained back once you stop doing the shakes. It's all a conspiracy, I swear!
Something bout a Fool and their $$$$. Other than speed there apears to be no Magick whatever out there...
you're all right. i just stopped those shakes today. I dont think that's a good idea. i have a real problem with food, that totally sucks im just ADDICTED to it. dammit.
Everyone needs to eat; it's a necessary part of survival. It doesn't make sense to feel bad for doing something you NEED to do. It would be like trying to control your air intake by limiting the number of breaths you can take per minute. By starving yourself you are going against your natural instinct to "not die of starvation". This is why it hurts to be hungry, because your body is trying to tell you "hey, let's go get some food so we don't die". You think you can beat this system with nothing more than willpower? Our hunger drive is designed correctly; it's only our fuel choices that pose a problem. You can eat as much food as you want as long as you eat the right kinds of foods.
You're totally right, the issue here is that i eat too much, more than what a regular human being is supposed to. that's why im fat. I have nothing against eating, just like you said that's necessary for our survival the thing is i should find a moderate way of doing it before i get sick.
No, you completely missed my point. Weight loss can be near effortless as long as you eat the right kinds of foods, not the right amount of food. As I said earlier, trying to limit your food intake will just leave you hungry and ultimately failing in your diet. You're not eating too much food, just too much of the wrong foods. You won't get fat eating potatoes; but frying them in oil and smothering them in butter, cheese, sour cream and bacon bits will make those healthy potatoes into something that will cause you to gain weight and decrease your health. Base your meals on unrefined starches and whole grains such as potatoes, brown rice, millet, barley, corn, squash, etc. These starches will be your main course, while green and yellow vegetables will be your side dish representing about 1/3 of your plate. Eliminate excess fats and foods high in fat such as oil, meats and dairy. Also avoid excess sugars and refined sugars/flour products like white breads, white rice, sugar, corn syrup and the like.
if you have enough money to spend on slim fast, you should be able to afford a healthy diet (like the ideas described above). i want to lose weight, too. i'm really stupid though because i can excersize, wich is all i need (and maybe a little diet change, wich i'm doing my best at right now) but i can't stand cold and it's febuary in minnesota and i live in the country (with a hike-worthy PARK in my back fucking yard ) ... anyway, back on topic... figure out a smart diet and find foods you like or can prepare in a way that you like and stick to it. also, the smallest amount of excersize, done regularly, will lead to being healthier and more excersize ability.
Losing a lot of weight requires a lifestyle change. those shakes just make you obsess over Real food. Glad you stopped and good luck to you! Its all about fruits, veggies, brown rice, lean meats(if you eat meat) and fish- white fish can be cooked lots of different yummy ways. and remember lots of water!!! Try swimming, thats easier on your heart. they give lots of cool water aerobics classes at the Y. lower impact. just remember it takes a long time to lose weight safely. Think of it as a day to day learning experience. dont obsess over food, just get healthier!!! no shakes, no pills.
I have been on the Slim fast plan for over a year, and I have lost about 30 pounds. I also eat fruit or veggie with a shake to help with the hunger. Apples, oranges, celery are good, but I love tomatoes and lemons. I know its a little weird eating raw lemons but I love them. A slow pace at losing weight, even 1-3 pounds a month or even 3 months, is better than none at all. The only side effects are gas and diarrhea, in some people, I had both now it gives me gas and that is all.
The slim fast diet is not good for your body. Sure it says it gives you all the essential vitamins and bla bla bla. But all its doing is making you shit liquid acid and replacing all the nutrients you just shit out. you dont know that the vitamins and nutrients in the shakes are the ones that your specific body may need there could be too much of one vitamin or not enough nutrients. I am telling you this from experience my whole family went on the slim fast diet and as soon as one of us got out of the bathroom the other ran right in there. but maybe it's different with you. I suggest that if you want to lose weight do the simple stuff first ( eating healthier, exercise longer) and go see a nutritionist and if you can afford it hire a personal trainer.
