ok you guys i just wanted to make a post for all of you to be careful. a few nights ago the girl who lives across the street from me was raped. her boyfriend had left for work 15 min, before it happend. and they think whoever it was had keys to the house, there was no evidence of forced entry. what is even more disturbing........her children were at home when it happend, she kept herself quiet so they woldnt wake up and see what happend. she fought the man but he hit her in the head so she didnt get a good lok at him to get a description of him.

    PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL

yeah, i remember getting a warning one time that when you drop your car off to be serviced, make sure all you're leaving is your car key. don't hand them all your keys. there were some guys taking the keys to get copied, and they have your address and shit on your paperwork.

yeah i never give em all my keys. what scares me tho, we live in apartments, so the managers office has all the keys in it, and the maintenece man has all the keys too..........

How terrible. I also don't give anyone all my keys. I have a clip for just my car key and it detaches from the rest of my keys.

The poor womyn. I hope she got some help.

Make sure to use the deadbolt when you are in an apartment alone. There is no key for that.

    Scary

As a dad with 3 daughters, this really disturbs me. I know when They eventually leave home I won´t be there to protect them.

I´ve had 2 of my daughters doing Karate for the last 10 years, and both are due for their black belt test later this year. I hope this will be at least some sort of protection.

That's so sad... :( I was housesitting for my mom while she was out of town earlier this week, and I was really scared something would happen. We just got this new alarm system, but I think it makes it worse. :) I never used to worry about being here alone, but now this alarm system is on all the time, and once a door blew open just a little and it went off and I freaked out... then I couldn't get the door to close right and it went off like three more times that night. I just quit using it. I'd rather be killed in my sleep than hear the bastard coming....

I hope your neighbor is doing alright. She couldn't get a description at all? Poor lady... :(

That's really awful, I'm so sorry to hear that. It sucks that we have to go through such measures to protect ourselves, but unfortunately, that's the way things are here :(

Yes be careful ofcourse, but if you are in a situation like that then have the power to stand up and fight!

Go to GIRLS FIGHT BACK classes if you have them in your area. I am unfamiliar with their organization , so I am not sure if they have classes in your area, but please check their site out , check if they have their program in your place , they have good tips on their website too...

    www.girlsfightback.com

I hope she has someone to talk to, if she does not and needs any help, please tell her to contact rape hotline, some thing like this //www.dcrcc.org/home.htm

I am sure they have something like that over there in your area too I am sure.

Anyway, if you want, you can check the site out , it has some useful tips to stay safe...

Do check www.girlsfightback.com though... its pretty good.

Thats terrible. Funkyphresh, you should get one of those chains that you put on your door, so it can only open up like 6 inches. My brother's friend has like five of those. He's weird though. When my mom first moved into her neighborhood, these three black kids were really giving her problems, egging her house and breaking in and stuff, well she put these really big bells on all her door knobs and stuff, so she always hears when a door opens. You cats will play with them alot, but you can tell the difference.

i do have a chain thank god. but since her b/f just left for work she was asleep and didnt re-lock it  ... but the bells are a food idea!! thanks for that tip..

    Not to seem insensitive.... But....

Many, many, many women are raped, everyday. I'm not sure what the statistic is, but I know it's a lot. I'm a tick-mark in that tally, as well. Unfortunately, it is a harsh reality of our society.

When something terrible happens in our backyards, we feel especially moved by the event. However, it hasn't changed the fact that this stuff goes on around us, all the time.

I'm glad that you are affected enough to try to make yourself safer, but I'm sorry that it took something like that happening across the street from you, to make it happen.

Be smart. Be safe. But remember, this happens everyday, you just don't hear about it, everyday. Don't put yourself at undue risk, but don't get paranoid, either.

i have always been somewhat paranoid over in this neighborhood. and i do know things happen every day, and it pisses me off that the cops rarely ever seem to care about anything unless someone is murderd or had drugs..........
