I couldn't find another thread on here that addressed this issue, but what do you all think about spaying or neutering dogs and cats?

I am all for it...there are too many unwanted litters and unwanted cats and dogs already! Pet overpopulation is because of people NOT having their animals fixed and then letting them roam.

I am actually a dedicated volunteer with a spay/neuter program here called Ruff Spots. We do fundraising and most of the funds go to shelters and rescue animals to spay and neuter adoptable animals. We also promote the adoption of rescue/shelter animals and spaying/neutering...

Every cat should be altered before they are old enough to reproduce. Cats come into heat about 4 times a year. Think of the number of kittens one female could produce in a year. Now, with dogs, I have a bit of a different stance. While, I do believe that all dogs should be altered unless they are shown in AKC/CKC, I prefer to wait until they are fully developed..1 year old with small breeds and 2years old with large breeds.

everyone should spay and neuter their animals. we need to take responsibility for this gigantic problem we've caused resulting in millions of homeless and needy animals in shelters and being euthanized.not only that but it also protects the animal from cancer in that area.

My bf and I have decided to neuter our kitten after lots of debate. I just feel bad taking his malehood from him. I know it sounds silly, but...how would you like it if I cut off your balls? At the same time, I don't want him spraying the house and being as crazy as he is either...

Wise choice to neuter. Makes happier pets that can focus on loving their people and not reproducing. Plus nothing worse than cat pee on your stuff!

It does seem harsh if you think about it, but realistically it's much kinder to the animals in general as it does prevent huge numbers of unwanted babies. We got my kitty after she was found abandoned in the street, showing signs of having recently had kittens, though they never found them. Luckily she got taken to the vets, and we fell in love with her

Do you mean euthanized??? DO NOT GET HIM EUTHANIZED just because you cannot afford him! There are people out there who would like a dog! If you cannot afford your dog, then look for another home!!! Or even bring him to a SPCA, he would at least have a second chance! But euthanasia isn't the way out!

Where did you get that number? That would mean there are 60 billion dogs in the world? I don't think so... Last report the were less than 2.5 million in the US alone. I think it would be more like 100 humans per dog but that's awfully high.

Animals Probably don't claim their organs as "malehood"~they take no pleasure in sex ~ Its only reproduction to them ~ not personal to them at all. Don't worry about hurting his feelings for taking his balls ;). I agree that it is very important to be responsible pet owners and keep the animal population down.
