What's the deal?

Ok, so I joined the Hip Forums because i wanted to find some people who were against the mainstream, who thought differently. Unfortunately, I've been disappointed. Looking over the posts, there seems to be little peace and love, and a lot of traditional "you're a fag" type of argument. People treat one another on this forum no better than on any other forum. How can that be called "hippie"?

 

most of it is from people who are new
not that i'm generalizing that
there are really cool new people
but most of the ones that are doin' the stirring up in here are new
us "hippies" (eh...think i'd love that term by now) are still here

 

most people are fashion hippies

 

Yeah man I see the same thing that goes on out there here, but theres a few good stuff around.

 

If you're going to narrow all the people down into a category, why don't you just leave because you're no better than them. This isn't your imagination, it's the internet.

 

It is in my experience in many froums that there are always people who go on just so they can put other people down or make spam comments that only hurt others point of view. Ive seen this here but ive also seen alot of decent and "hippe" like people. I am sure that if we both stick around we can soon see the lovers instead of the haters!!

 

not everyone on here is a hippie (like me, I'm just a nerdgirl)

and every forum has their fair share of flamers... in smaller sites it's easier to keep an eye on them and delete their posts or ban the person, this site is terribly large though to keep a really really close eye on all potentially problematic posts

 

I've been here longer than all of you and I can say it used to be like that... but as the site grows, you have more people with a wider margin of views.

Deal with it... or don't come here. It's simple advice. The more you bring it up, the worse it'll get.

 

as far as I'm concerned. Hippies are dead. The real hippie culture is dying. Now we have these new-age hippies that smoke pot and listen to Pink Floyd and wear tie-dye and bitch and moan about the corporations. The closest thing we have to hippies nowadays is pot heads and environmentalists.

 

Then I'm a conservationist who smokes too much, has been to some phish concerts, and likes to fish.... as well as being a recovering vegan.

The hippies back in the 60s when the hippie subculture was active stressed freedom and love. They smoked pot, but not only for pleasure, but to expand their minds.

I'm not a hippie, but I hate corporations. I don't flame people or call people fags either...

People use the word "fag" in ignorance now days. If you understood the words you spoke, then you would know that by calling somebody a "fag" your saying they should be burned alive for being homosexual and implying that you would like to do it or would do it if there were not reprocutions.

how are you expecting us to reply to a thread like this?

if you don't like it, no one's asking you to stay. this site does sound "hippy" or that was my first impression when I got here too but it's really just all kinds of poeple posting their opinions.. and that does mean you'll find people being idiots aswell.

just don't go around this site thinking everyone's a real hippie... not everyone is.

 

There is actually not much flaming going on in these forums compared to any other forums I've ever been on. Every once in awhile somebody comes and tries to bash hippies, but they don't get any satisfaction out of it. Some people are insecure, and that includes hippies.

 

I'd prefer it if you did go around thinking we're all real hippies. It'd make things interesting when you said something.

 

Duh, hippies don't have computers!

 

Just like in real life, there are plenty of cynical assholes around. Just don't get into any arguments and you'll be fine.
