hopefully you arent going to purchase a "pet" simply for your son as he is two years old and the responsibility will be all yours. (i hate the world "pet". animals are not "pets" ......sorry i had to add that) if YOU are wanting to add a new family member to the family i would suggest adopting from a shelter. you can find a dog or cat that will be known already to be good with children and this is not always an easy task. many animals ive known and seen do not like small children as children generally pull their tails and kick them, etc. so they are fearful and rightfully so. but petfinder.com is a wonderful site that has the key to homeless animals everywhere...check it out.

well dont get me wrong this will be a faimly member (my bad saying pets )

    *feels stupid*

of course it will be adopted from the local shelter , i had a dog named camper who slept with my boy every night ,they were best freinds , had to get rid of her though due to moving into and apartment , the dog or cat will be my responsability and i take that with an open heart .

fyi - you said there not pets and then gave me pet finder ...
    duh

yeah i know....should be called "furry family member finder" but i guess thats too long?;)

what did you do with your other dog? well petfinder is the most awesome site ever. you type in your zip code and you can specify your search if you are looking for a specific type of dog or cat or whatever and it will give you a list of all the animals closest to you that need homes along with a profile of their personality and in most cases it will say "not good with kids" or "this dog is good with small children"........

you'd probably want a dog IMO as dogs are more social animals than cats (generally.....my cat is a social butterfly but only with me) and a dog would probably take better to your son esp as he is so young....id think that most cats would tend to be more fearful of children. also i think with a dog your son will get more interaction with him or her and it will be a much better learning experiance for him..........

def post a pic when you do bring home the new fur baby!

that sounds good but you never really know what you will get with a puppy and with a young child in the house it is important that you get a friendly, social dog. I would suggest an older (2-4) dog. A lab mix is your best bet in my opinion.

Greyhounds make excellant family members and get along really well with children (most anyway). They are very affectionate and tolerant and extremely docile. Most greyhounds that are being picked on by a young child tend to get up and move away instead of snapping. They are also hypo-allergenic,only eat 3-4 cups of food a day and are lazy (despite being the canine athletes they are). They do not need to run all the time, altho they do love running and so a run in an enclosed field once a week is good, with daily walks. They are also not prone to hip dysplasia like so many other larger breeds (labs and rottweilers are two breeds very prone to that). And the average lifespan of a greyhound is 12 yrs.

There are so many greyhounds in need of homes, so you can find a rescue near you! And if you want a young dog, most greyhounds are 2-5 when they retire, therefore you can adopt a younger dog, if that is what you want.

I suggest you look into the greyhound...
