I remember reading somewhere that human's digestive tracts are shaped like a herbivore. The intestines have deep pockets that are designed for digesting plant materials not meat. So apparently God (or whatever deity you believe in) designed us to eat plant food.
Ironically I just mentioned something along that line in another post...I think it's the one about getting sick after eating meat! IT IS TRUE! Just another reason to become and stay a veggie!
well, there's also a lot of people who get sick after not eating meat, or eating certains types of vegetables. it's all in what you get adjusted to. we can adjust to about anything. i think it's more along the lines of a personal choice.
Good points We definetly weren't meant to be carnivores. Apart from the digestive tract we have fairly small blunt teeth, better suited to munching plants than ripping through flesh. Over the years of course humans have adapted. I'm convinced that while we can handle some meat the bulk of our diet should be plant based. Funnily enough most nutritionists seem to agree.
i've been doing alot of research on vegetarianism & the human digestive system since becomming vegetarian myself (i'm not prepaired to go in to this blindfolded). when i was eating meat i often thought to myself "if god didnt intend us to eat meat then why give us k9 teeth?" i read that we have k9 teeth because at some point humans had to eat meat. K9 teeth in the human body is just like the male foreskin & the apendix. Actually, all primates have big canines, even the vegans like gorillas and orangutans. But the creatures we believe to be our closest living relatives, chimpanzees, eat an omnivorous diet of mostly plants with lots of bugs and occasionally meat. The earliest known homo sapiens were definitely omnivorous as they are almost always found with chewed up animals and hunting tools, and the earliest known human artwork usually depicts the hunt. But regardless, it is very easy for humans to live off a vegetarian diet. We can live off a vegan diet too, but it is not nearly as easy to do without supplements and other things modern society makes possible. So my point is, in today's world you have a choice. The default tends to be omnivorous, but I choose to eat vegetarian, some choose to eat vegan. In the end it is a personal choice.
