A ship commune/boat commune would be ideal for the coming onslaught of 2012. Anybody want to make another Noah's Ark? All we have to worry about is pirates, icebergs, the bermuda triangle, and hurricanes. We can dock at island, eat coconuts and fresh tropical fruits. Fish. Dive for seaweed. Go all over the world without any laws. For no country owns the ocean. Ha! I wonder how much an old cruise ship costs these days?
you say no one owns the ocean .........sorry but unless you stay out on the high seas you will find out that they do ..........canada for an example has a 200 mile zone out to sea ....a lot of countries the same...and as far as landing on an island ,well there's immigration ........not at all today like in the days of robinson crusoe
hey ive had the same idea for years except instead of a crappy cruise ship we need barges loads of them cruise ships require way too much matinence and are too hard to protect in international waters ( my idea) anyways Barge Commune
Yeah a cruise ship would be way to big and well incredibly expensive. Here's some boats, barges, and other kinds of ships for sale.... http://www.maritimesales.com/ Great minds do think alike http://www.maritimesales.com/PJR10.htm ...I like that one...a lot of room...and your own rooms! It's only $150,000. Houses for that price aren't even that big! But I don't think it moves, her hull is concrete, but still I could tottaly live on that, at that price it seems like a steal. If only it wasn't in New Zealand!
An ocean-based commune isn't a bad idea actually, but only one for experienced sailors I think! Most people would feel a lot safer in a fleet of ships rather than a single vessel though. That accommodation barge is pretty cheap I thought, though more ideal for land lubbers! Concrete hulls are actually more common than you think - it's often called ferrocement and is basically a steel mesh/rod concrete composite. I presume the reason it can't move is because it has no propulsion system - instead relying on tugs to move it about.
A bullshit one no doubt. Two things are certain: i) There *will* be an apocalypse at some point. In our lifetime though? Who knows! ii) People have been claiming something will happen "in the year xxxx" for well, years now. I think it's so they can look smug when it does. The irony is that there probably wont be anybody left for them to impress when "it" does happen. Personally, I think an onslaught in 2012 is quite a way off compared to other sooth-sayers!
funny how many sayers of doom and gloom there have been over the years ..some religions have even been based on this ..seventh day adventists, for one ..they have been predicting the end of the world for years but every time the date passed with no appocolypse ,they reset the date and say they made a mistake ..too bad some people actually believe these doomsday prophets .many a life and fortune has been lost to these fakes
I think it has something to do with the Mayans. They were masters at understanding the earth cycles, time and the cosmos. It is said that the Mayans had the only truly accurate calendar. However, the Mayan calender ends on December 22, 2012. The idea of a commune on a boat is a cool idea So long as you don’t try to land in a country immigration should not be much of a problem. The difficultly will be knowing where these deserted islands are a head of time. The ocean is a big place. You will want people who are skilled in medicine, sailing, survival etc because you will be truly on your own out there. If you do run into trouble the chances of help getting to you are slim to none. Also you are going to want to have a means of defending your self as pirates and drug runners are a real danger.
