first impression when i saw the title of this thread was: A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess enjoy! ps, tom robbins kicks some serious literary ass.
East of Eden by John Steinbeck... I read it last year and it took over my life. I couldn't do anything but read that darn book. :&
Jack Kerouac's "On The Road" or anything else by him Jack London is pretty badass also Hemingway, Steinbeck, Ayn Rand (tho many on this sight will probably disagree
hitchikers guide to galazy - douglas adams (better than movie) i, robot- asimov (nothing like the P.O.S. movie) or anything else by asimov the satanic bible -anton lavey
oh! Huxley! i just finished reading 2 of his books --> "Time must have a stop" and "Brave New World" i personally liked "Brave new world" best.
On my to-read list... Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie (A friend recommended it to me today) Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert ( A professor recommended it ) Any poetry by Allan Ginsberg ( I've had a taste and want to check out more ).
well, the obvious Ginsberg read is Howl... i have tiny book with Howl and Other Poems, they're great short reflective reads.
I'm just goinna repeat myself because this book doesn't get enough credit, and should be required reading in high school but isn't in most places, and If you like philosophy, READ JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN BY DALTON TRUMBO. I am not kidding it will steal your face right off your head, it's about a guy who gets all his limbs blown off, his ears too, and he can't see talk hear or even smell because his nose got blown off all by a mine. All he can do is think. It's heavy heavy shit, and the style of writing is off the wall; guy doesn't use any punctuation really, all stream of consciousness too. Makes you feel like you're really inside his head.
