Is wax safe to use? Is it as harmful as everyone says it is? Yes we have all seen the picture of the big dread with the wax insides but is that a valid conclusion? What are the pros and cons of wax and using it?

none of the above. all natural is NOT the only way to go... however wax IS terrible. its used for vanity only. if your looking to LOOK good (or at least neat).. then sure go for dwax... but if you wanted neat... why do you have wax?

Wax DOES build up, and plenty of forumers here have chopped their waxy filled dreads for naturals. if you read the HUNDREDS of otehr threads on here about this you will know that. It also holds the hairs in place PREVENTING movement and knotting.

when you back comb and wax you DONT have dreads... you have clumps of back combed hair glued together... they needt to lock themselfs and ACTUALLY lock :)

sorry for all the capitals but im getting sick of repeating the same boring old story every week because peole refudse to research into the hundreds and hundreds of other threads about this exact issue.

Hmmm it has been done to the death a fair bit, it all depends on the individual !!
Me personaly wouldnt use it(again) i stoped using it right after I first done them 2 years ago & what a pain it was to get that shit out, if you want quick neat dreads, go for it, if you want something more meaningfull don't,

In the end they will look faaar better & the knowledge they are propper locks
not glued together backcombed hair as fleassy said !!

    Wax, Meh not for me

I found it helped with DD's dreads in the very beginning. But just the tiniest bit on the palms of my hands so that palm-rolling would work better because her hair is so fine and soft, it wouldn't roll between my hands otherwise. It did make her dreads look neater, but I found that it gunked up and collected lint and grossness (even using the tiniest bit) so we stopped using it because she wasn't big on all the scrubbing required to get her hair good and clean.

    ahhhhh bahhhh bluuuuuu gaaaaa

hmmm people are still wondering about this information?

its posted all over every dreadlock forum, and if you haven’t been convinced of the side effects of wax and what harm it dose just wait as see what happens if you use it yourself. live you learn......

I’m a prime example…. I just mine off, I consider wax to be just as equal as having bugs crawling over my head a burrowing little nests into my hair.

    There were my dreads

This my dread after a year with wax gunked all in it.(This image is NOT as impacting as seeing it for your self)

I started off with wax because I didn't know better and f you must use it, I would suggest only doing as boogiemama suggested. I must say though that even after a few MONTHS of regular washing..a few washes ago I STILL had remnants of it.

I don't use any products except Knottyboy Dread Gel and I water it down because it is pretty strong.
