i'm sure there have been many posts on here about this, but i am new here, so i'm sorry. Who thinks talking to your plants helps? Of course we all here it does, but do any of you actually believe it does, or have there been studies showing it stimulates growth?
I had a class mate do a rpoject WAY back in middle school and she played music/audio to plants. The plants that had an audio book/jazz/classical music played to them did much better than the plants to had real heavy/fast music played to them. I think that they all did better than the normal plants that didn't have any audio stimulation.
much of these ideas developed from the findhorn garden in scotland where they communed with the plants and really let them know they were loved and part of the family. the plants responded with spectacular growth
i read an excellant book on this subject THE SECRET LIFE OF PLANTS i forget the author i'll have to dig out the book. it was based around a professors studies of plants. they used music and i remember one very influential study where they hooked up the equipment they use for lie detector test, and had amazing responses. i don't recal all the specifics, but i remember it having a profound effect on the way i thought about plants after. it was highly interesting.
i was just thinking that too... haha... i find the idea that plants respond to humans disturbing... i wouldnt injure kill or eat an animal... but that is what i do everyday with plants... if it was just picking their fruits it would be ok... but we prune for the best crop and uproot weak or sick plants. christ.. what would i eat if i thought they could 'feel'
I buy it. we're all energy, and can sense energy around us. Why shouldn't a plant pick up on positive and negetive vibes around it? What else does it have to "think" about, haha All I know is that I talked to my garden and it was healthy as anything and tasted fantastic.
I don't necessarily talk to my garden, but I feel very in tune with the plants and the earth. Unless someone else is working the garden with me,it's quiet...I sort of meditate and pray as I go along. My energy is usually good, and I think it makes a huge difference.
by talking to your plants you breath carbondioxide at them, i guess. and that might help since that's the stuff plants breath. it's a theory..
That show~ Mythbusters ~did a study on this. They had one greenhouse playing heavymetal/punk music and they would scream obscenities at the plants. The other greenhouse played soft music and they would say nice things to the plants. I think it was like a 2 month period and the end results showed significantly better growth to the greenhouse that was kind.
I think it works. The Cherokees believe that sickness is caused from man killing an animal for no reason, and the plants watch the world, so they create a cure for that disease. I think they are aware of what is going on.
I'm a firm believer in this. I always have done it and my plants do grow better compared to anyone else in my house.
NatureFreak...that's close to right on the Cherokee thing. The Animals were going to get even with men for killing them. The bear people were going to try to make a bow and arrows to kill the people. One Bear sacrificed himself to make the bow string (made from bear gut) but when they tried to use it their claws got in the way. The plants finally felt sorry for the men people and got together and allowed themselves to be used for medicine, food etc. When scientists see a plant react to it's environment or lighting conditions the pass it off as chemical reactions, hormone reactions to uneven light, etc. They cannot see a willfull reaction. But people react to their environment by chemical reactions and hormones etc. The only difference is that animals react QUICKER. I have transplanted plants BADLY and got them to survivie by talking to them and showing them that I really wanted them to survive and they did...when by all accounts they should have failed. Believe what you will, that is what the world is all about, but I believe plants to be living, feeling entities that allow us to use them.
Lets not forget our time on earth is short, im sure as hell im not goint to spend it talking to a plant ."even tho some people are just as intellegent as a plant".
I believe that plants do feel, and that treating them well, talking postively, in a gentle voice, singing and stroking them will benefit them. I should know, I did a science project on this in grade four with two african violets. The one I treated nicely did far better than the one I was rude to, lol. I won third prize for that.
interesting viewpoint since plants (like trees) enable you to have air to breathe i personally think they're quite worth talking to! i've had great growth results & learned a LOT too think about it....they've been here a LOT longer than us, perhaps they have a few secrets to share we use them for food, fiber, medicine, shouldn't we thank them?
thats an exciting piece of affirmation, that part on mythbusters, and "The secret life of palnts" is an interesting read. Someone said that they tune into the energy in their garden....to my understanding this IS how we effectively communicate with plants and such, on a spiritual level of energies that transcends all barriers like words, language, etc.
i sort of do it without thinking about it...i mean i have a few live plants in my room and when im watering them i always say something like "man you are not looking to good" or "man you are so healthy and pretty". i dunno i talk to myself all the time though... i cant really tell
