Folks - Living in one of the most restrictive countries right now (UAE), but am flying back to Canada via Amsterdam for a visit in March. My wife was brilliant enough to book me a 9-hour stop-over in the 'Dam - both ways - but here's the problem - I get into the city around 6am, and don't know of any shops that'll be open at that time. Thoughts? Worst-case, I'll wander until the Bulldog is open @ 9, but I'd like to take full advantage *cough* *cough* of my time if I can. Little help? Thanks...

click on my sig below for coffeeshop opening times.

There's a handful that I still need to find out when
they open and close which I hope to do in a couple
of weeks when I'm there again.
Off the top of my head The Coin, Barneys & Central
open early and near Central Station.

Thanks, Nemesis... the map in your sig isn't working right now, but I'll definitely check back later...

May have figured out a solution for the trip back. When I first get there, I'm going to buy extra and bury it somewhere, water-tight & sealed. Then, on my way back, I'll just dig up my treasure and enjoy... Hell, if someone else finds it, good for them - glad I could provide a treat.

If you happen to be there on March 10, let me know and we could meet up for schmoke & a pancake, as they say... Otherwise happy travels.

Unfortunately I'm not there in March but have a
    good one yourself, urbanHippie.:)
Not sure why the map is not working for you.?
It is Flash based though so you need the
Macromedia Flash Player installed on your PC,
apart from that, no idea, hope you can view it
later, it's a handy thing to know where all the
    coffeeshops are.

Go for Barneys for sure in the am, they open at 7am, try the hash and get your grub on. Pass on the Bulldog, touristy as hell and HIGH prices.

    Plenty other choices.

    peace

Barneys is a great breakfast place but gets crowded. Central is a good buy and leave place. Blue Velvet is near Barneys and has great vibes too! Not to mention some of the most sweet women working behind the counter! Picasso opens around 8am and would be a good choice. Nem's map also says double reggae opens around 7am but it would be my last choice out of the ones I've posted. Also The Coin is a small shop with some of the best Jack Herer you will find. It should open around 7am.

    I beg to differ...

Central CS is a great buy and hang place, especially if you can get a seat by the front window around 8am or so.

Ain't nothin' like watchin' Amsterdam come alive in the early morning hours lookin' out the front window of Central with a doob in one hand and a cappacinno in the other.

    Don't forget The Box!
