Oh god, that totally made my day. I haven't laughed that hard all week.

Anyway, back on topic I have read the bible many times, after being in a Christian elementary school for eight years and now I'm stuck in a catholic highschool.

I've read bits and pieces, and still do. Sometimes I come away with a snippet of inspiration, sometimes I leave grumbling about "inequities" of the day.

Never understood why people say it's god's word when it's really, truly, a semi-historical document written by men. Was there divine intervention? Perhaps, who knows, but I can tell you that I'm pretty sure god didn't put feather to scroll himself.

It's the same with the stone tablets that god supposedly gave to Moses. I have my doubts that they were given to him by the Almighty from the moment I read the law about 'thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's ass'. What kind of a stupid law is that? God would never write this. I mean, I can understand it if your neighbor is Jennifer Lopez, but what if it's Roseanne Barr? I wouldn't covet her ass if they paid me.

I wouldn't call JayLop a donkey. A floozey maybe. And Roseanne is definately too big to be classed as a donkey, though, perhaps a junior hippo.

Perhaps one of the longest and most drawn-out fiction books I've ever laid eyes upon. :)

Awwww come on now it isn't THAT long. I've read it 3 times. Twice in a seminary bible class setting and once on my own. The nice part about the class was that it helped you figure out some of the sybolism within the writings. Like in Revelations. Have some parts memorized. I'm at a very different place right now then I was back then but I still find a lot of the parables helpful in understanding what it takes to be a good person...what with the whole "love your neighbor" "help those in need". What I never understood was the people who took everything in the book SO so literally. Have you ever thought about what the literal old testament is like? And to take that literally? Madness I tell ya...but to every man his own I suppose.

Is there any particular passage from the bible that anyone likes, or remembers? I quite liked the Ezekiel speech in 'Pulp Fiction', but when I looked it up in the bible, it was nothing like the words that Samuel L. Jackson spoke. It might be a better idea to get Qrettin Tarantino to make an abridged version. So, what part of the bible sticks out for you, guys and girls?

I've read parts of it, but not all of it in one go. I preferred the Old Testament, but I don't use it as a guide to life etc, I had to read it in R.E!

The New Testament is what applies to us Gentiles, right? I mean, beyond the Pentateuch (sp?), which contains the story of Genesis, Noah and Moses (I think), the historical parts are for the Jewish (The Law), but the Gospels, Epistles and Revelations are New Testament, right? And I totally agree with Jesus' teachings being a perfect guide to how to live your life, thought these teachings seem to be a universal theme with all religions. Check out a book called One Heart:Wisdom from the World's Scriptures to see what I mean by that...I do my best to read from it daily (The Bible, that is...)

Can't say i have read the bible page by page..but i reckon i am a decent enough person none the less.. most of the parables are common sense [possibly why they are a universal themes] ....

lilylove people take it literaly..because it is supposed to be taken literaly.. it might seem a bit far fetched and removed from reality NOW..but all of it is supposed to be true... i thought.

Its a shame religeon causes 90% shit that goes on in the world though

one of my closest friends is a christian and one of the reasons we get on so well is that she's never tried to convert me or whatever and we both do whatever we want without trying to stop each other. annoyingly enough not all religious people are like that.i hate jehovas witnesses(cant spell, sorry) who come to your own home with their massive pack and try to make you one of them!!kinda out of order to me
