So here is my furniture hobbie. I just started doing it, and this is my first table. I didn't make the chess board or the pieces inside, but everything else I hand carved out of plywood and poplar. the legs were spindles for stairs, but I hand carved the bottoms of the spindles to look like legs. I think it turned out pretty good. Let me know your imput.

Very nice. It looks like the legs pass through the bottom and are attached to the diagonals inside the table. Very cool!
You say you did this all with hand tools?? Wow, very nice miters on the diagonals. Are they plywood or solid?
How did you put the bevel at the edge of the top?

i used a knife to cut the edges off, and then i used 60 grain sand paper and went down to 220 grain until I had an edge that looked like I used a router on the lid. It's not perfect. If you see it up close you can see. The legs actually do pass through the bottom. The diagnals are solid poplar and the legs are screwed to them to hold them in place. The lid and bottom of the table are plywood, the rest poplar. I did not lathe the legs myself. I cheated a little bit on that, like I said, I bought spindles for the legs. The only thing I did to them was to make the bottoms round and pointed to look like legs. I wanted to use 2 x2 poplar to match and lathe myself, but I don't have a lathe, and they are too expensive for me right now. i hope to eventually do everything myself, but right now I have to take some shortcuts. Also, until I get to larger pieces I do intend to use all hand tools. Thanks for all the compliments.

Court, I could make you something if you want. Im only like 6 hours from ithica. That table cost me about 75 dollars to make. If you give me an idea of what you want I can give you a price. If not or you're not ready for it yet it's all good. That goes for anyone though. I can predrill and send the pieces UPS if you pay shipping too. Let me know.
