I bacombed my hair about 2 months ago. I just saw Knittin.Chicks picture of her dreads after 3 months, and they look soooo so so much better than mine! Honestly, you can not even tell that i'm working on dreading my hair! All the backcombing came undone except for about an inch down at the roots. I am about a week away from ordering some wax ... This is so discouraging to see my hair undreading over time more than it is dreading. especially when I campare it with other peoples who have had theirs as long as mine. ugh.
Put some sea salt in hot water and rinse your head with it. Wash with baking soda instead of shampoo. I re-backcombed DD's hair three times (only the ones that came completely untogether), and it seems to be staying finally. The photo in my sig is from yesterday. We started her dreads on Christmas. The beads are really helping keep things together, and doing a much better job of it than the rubber bands were.
My advice is to just let them do their thing. only with time will they mature into what it sounds like you expect. If you want to see what a couple of years letting them go will look like, check out Fleassy's locks in her photos, unbelievably knotty. Stay away from wax man. the shit is bad, bad, bad for your locks. you can use natural sea salt and water with a little tea tree oil if you wish. remember that patience and time is what will make your locks.
aww cheers davey yea mine after 2-3 months looked like a big mess... like a super duper big mess./ i can beleive knitting chicks are so neat actually Seriously mine didnt look like dreads untill 6 months. but im glad of it now because the backs so tight and chunky and beautiful. time is all you need trust me. i know you can get impatient but fill your time buying cool hats and things to cover it up untill then
Hi Kyndveggie Don't worry about your locks undreading.....they're doing exactly what they're supposed to. Mine are still doing that on the ends too. I'm told that they well do that for quite a while. I've got tons of loose hairs that are gradually working their way into dreads. I don't use wax on mine or palm roll......I just leave them be. That seems to be doing the trick
mine are about 7 months, and they arent undreading anymore, but the tips arent dreaded yet, they will soon tho. i would say get knottyboys dread shampoo bar. www.knottyboy.com idk if youve been there but i like that shampoo a lot. it cleans good, smells good, helps with itches, and really helps knot up your hair. i would say dont always be backcombing your hair. leave it be. just do that like once a week or so. and palm roll them. beads really help. i have a glass one and after like a month of it being on one dread, that dread was sooo knotted up after the bead. it was a tight bead too. and then the rest started knotting up when i took it off. and i put it on another dread to hepl that one along. good luck. peace~
i felt the same way when mine were like 3 months old! i love this forum cuz i get inspired. but then a post would come up and someone would be beautiful dreadies and mine were not so sweet. its not a competition with anyone/. i love how everyone has their own unique dreadies and styles. have patience and enjoy your journey. just think of how your dreads transform everyday. they wont be like it forever so apprecaite what you've got. love and light
