...but as long as i'm stuck in the dream i may as well make the most of it right? does 'anyone else' ever seriously consider everything - their whole existence in this world, to just be an illusion? or is this concept just copping out from reality?

If it's an illusion then I demand a better one!!! Of course I consider it but then I usually do so when I'm sitting on top of a mountain here in Scotland looking down on the beautiful countryside. It's when I fall on the way down (And boy does it hurt) I realise this is no illusion.

That is technically impossible, since what we define as reality is what you are experiencing now. For this to be an illusion in the way we think of it, and ignoring what I just said, there would have to be some higher reality from which this illusion originates. Like. . . a reality where you are sleeping and dreaming of THIS life. Or where your real body is hooked up to the matrix.

So I was in 5th grade, right? And I thought that I was the only person that thought about that. And then one day, my teacher asked if anyone else has ever felt or thought about that and every kid goes "yeah!". It was strange. Maybe us thinking it is a hint that it really is an allusion.

exactly, and yet i don't agree with you at all. who says that "higher reality" must be a phsyical one? and how would you know that there ISN'T one, if you've never tried.

there's a WONDERFUL film i suggest to you all, an independant documentary called "what the bleep do we know?" see it if you can, it's in theaters.

also there's a book i've just begun to read that is, though simplistically put, a summation of this theory. it's called "illusions" by richard bach (the jonathan seagull guy).

the thing is... if it is all an illusion, simply genuinely not believing in it could allow one to change "reality." after all, reality is just what we on a personal level percieve-- it is different to every observer, and when things are not under observation they do not "exist," as they are not being percieved.

my thought when i first heard that concept was "bull. absolute bull. i 'believe' i can fly. so why am i not flying?"

the thing is though, it's like when a person decides to focus on positive thoughts, and they're dissapointed when they're not seeing the "dramatic shift" affect their life. They aimed for ONLY positive when what they acheived or are only able to acheive from their state of mind is the negativity they had before, now with a "dash of positive" to top it off.

you'd have to REALLY be confident in the theory to make it work. i wish i was at that point. oh, this fascinates me i could write on it all day.

if anyone wants to chat about it just contact me :)

now see, i LOVE my reality. I'm in love, i'm going to the school of my choice this fall, i'm more on track than i ever have been before.

i have literally gotten everything i wished for since i started thinking positively about it and almost "expecting" it to happen.

i really believe this illusion thing, if only to satiate the human search for an 'answer,' and there's no way i'd ever want to cop out of my reality.

infact, the chance that i COULD just be done with this reality is what keeps me from persuing the theory further. how much would that suck... to lose an illusion you were truly content with.

though i suppose if it was between contentedness and 'enlightenment'... aww.
    time for sleep.

I used to think that we were kinda like puppets on a string...or that someone might be playing Barbie's with us. I dunno...If you believe in a higher power, than I guess this can kinda apply. But I dunno.

I know that (and this might not be what you are talking about...) But I know that when you have an anxiety disorder (which I do) that you often get a "free-floating" feeling or a distachment of yourself. That everything seems surreal, and that you just don't feel in sync with yourself. Oh well ::shrug::

Hell yeah I do. Actually, I have a hard time believeing that this isn't an illusion. Just because somehting's right in front of our faces, it doesn't mean that it's the truth. Heheh... this 'reality' could be the wool that's being pulled over our eyes.

I think everyone except the extremely dense think about things like that. Just like, "what does it feel like to be dead", or "what if other people percieve things such as colors in a totally different way", or "deja-vu"

What if we're all seeing things that aren't really here? What if our reality isn't a reality at all, and people who are crazy and see things are the ones that are witnessing the real reality? Or people that get high and start halucinating are witnessing the real reality? But when we hear of this they're all seeing things that aren't really there. They're out of touch with reality. But maybe we're the ones that are out of touch with reality. Just because we can't see something doesn't mean it's not there.

I don't know if any of that made sense :-\

That Alex Grey pic made me think about that painting he did with the meditating buddha like man. All those grid lines extending out into the world and when you look at it closely all the lines, everything in the picture is originating from within his head.

Yeah sometimes I'll be sitting around and minding my own business when I suddenly get all paranoid, like I don't know who the fuck I am or what the fuck I am doing here. *giggles*

The feeling passes pretty quickly, though, and I'm back to 'normal' in no time.

I just kinda space out from time to time.

Oh my, the brain can really be a mind fucker, i know that sounded kind of absurd or did it? Guess it depend how you define the mind. By the way i just got a déjà-vu feeling when writing this very shit. How ironic, though i dint intent to write about this phenoma (how do you spell the word?, well i guess you got the idea) at all, i feel it belong to the subject yes? Everybody have felt it, experienced it or is there anyone who hasnt? guess not. Anywho i find very fascinating, you KNOW you have been there before but cant remember when or where you had that dream or if it was real at all. I sure as hell dont.

When i come to think about it ive read some articles in school about dreaming,
though i cant remember anything very well was something about the different phases in sleep. According to some recording of the brains EEG they could, i believe, tell that the sleep is done in five kinds of phases. The first part of the sleep is in DELTA - sleep which I believe is just pure sleep. Then there is the REM (rapid Eye Movement) - sleep
which comes in intervals (i dont know if thats the word hope you´ll get it) around 90 minutes between each and becomes more and more lasting the closer you get to the awakening, Now every time these periods occur you are dreaming, so you can in fact have had about 5-10 dreams during one night but most people only remembers the last one which normally is the longest.

My point is that if deja vu could be proven as dreams inside these earlier phases of dreaming isnt that a pofe for this illusion you talk about.
Looking in to the future doent seem to be possible except for in a illusion...
ooh isnt this an endless subject, looks more like philosphy to me.

It was Rene Descartes that said "I think, therefore I am." By this, he meant that no matter what context you are living in, be it a dream, an illusion or a reality, if you can think within that context of life, you exist.
