people need to understand that the people that we now refer to as hippies never wanted to be called hippies it was a lable put on them by mainstream society. imo the people today who call themselves hippies do it so they can justify there existence and satisfy the need to be a part of a group.

This makes no sense. Part of being a hippie is individualism; like with the punk subculture. If you are intolerant to other people how can you expect a positive attitude in return? Tolerance, dude. I saw this all the time from "punks" in High School who would judge others as being "real punk" or "posers". But what they didn't seem to realise was by labelling people they were "posers" themselves.

 

there are no hippies there is only you, im not a hippy and i get pissed when people call me that ironic i know that i am on a hippy website, but if a label is the best way to meet like minded kids so be it but if you go around trying to act like a hippy you are the poser, i like reggae, good weed, jambands, festivals, nature, crystals, i got some patchies, and long hair, and believe in unconventional kindness not to mention im a vermonter, but i will never be a hippy i will be only me and i will never go around thinking i am more of a hippy than someone else, that is stupid, do things that you enjoy, if you dont like say phish-who i hate, then dont walk around with phish shirts and dont force yourself to like them, if your feet are cold dont wear birkenstocks, out of all my friends there is an equal selection of everybody, festival kids, rednecks, marines, adults, gangstas, and preppies, i dont care what your into or who you are as longs as you dont compomise yourself, alot of times festies make me laugh because i see so many people trying to fit in to be different, regardless of who you are or what you believe as long as your intelligent, and nice, or at least fun to be around, the one thing ive learned from all the stupid shit ive done is listen to your own istincts, take no ones advice but your own, and never do anything that you dont want to, my own choices have landed me in my particular situation and im fine with that, but if hoped on phish tour secretly hating their music would i really have had fun? probably actually everyone i did go to was great fun i just cant stand trey

 

The word hippie has become a marketing scheme. We are counter-culture, and this is a diverse and ambiguous phrase. Basically it means that we reject the mainstream crap that is being fed to people via the media (IE Nickleback and Nike). We must remain ambiguous, rather than become a nonconformist conformity.

I agree man. A real hippy doesn't hate anyone. Even Hippy Haters are allowed on this site. It makes for interesting topics.

 

Man a real hippy wouldn't care if there was "fake hippys" , all we have to do is remain true, they'll all move on

 

At least the fakers are aspiring for something good. better they be a phoney hippie than a real corporate consumer.
