so I was looking for land and found 150 acres for around 60,000$CND, the only thing is it's close to a golf course, and it only has a pond, no lake/river access. I was really looking forward to having some sort of waterfront property, for fishing and access to other things. What do people think? also we need more members to make this possible since I can't put that kind of money down. I'm still paying mortgage on the house and that right now comes first... any advice would be appreciated.

    hello

you are not looking in the right places. I have found the same amount of land NOT NEXT TO A GOLF COURSE! for about 15,000

of course the land is a little bit up north but that is fine for a commune, no annoying light pollution.

Well, the main problem I'm thinking of there is that enough food would need to be grown during the warmer months.
I don't know how complicated a solar greenhouse would have to be to function well outside that time, you know?

lol, you would have to grow pretty much everything in the warmer months. you could grow mushrooms all winter. you would have mushrooms, eggs, milk, and preserved foods for the winter. I just hope to god I get a fruit tree.

basically we could, and I have seen it done year after year, to have a garden that can feed you veggies all winter long. Hopefully the animals would provide some as well. plus the first years we would still be buying some food if not around half.

the golf course itself is not a bad thing since it's not right next to the land. right now were looking in mb and mostly southern nothing past the big lakes. so if you did find 150 acres for 15000, pls let me know where or send me a link. that might mean that we could get land tomorrow.

the main problem right now is because of canada's low population per land ratio. It's hard to find likeminded people to pitch in and join. we are starting to pick up a few people. if anyone is in mb or close and interrested pls check out the website and contact us. thanks

damn that seems like a decent deal, know what USDA hardiness zone it is in? this would be essencial for tree crops, it would be great if you could wiggle some northern pecan into the idea, help balance out the diet, certainly no doubt you could do plenty of long storing apple varieties.

I definitely am liking the the land prices, things look pretty doable, one of the few ideal things about a canadian commune, well along with increased freedom from a US one Im sure, keep me updated on your plan man for sure, forerunner999@yahoo.com

It wouldn't take that many of us to just each put a thousand or two straight up,
move in the next week, you know?
    hehe
    <(^_^<) <(^_^)> (>^_^)>

I'm digging this plan, because it really IS actually doable

If we can get 4K we can get 40 acres real fast, but I am not sure if that is enough land...like, I would intend to live there...well forever...the same 40 acres...forever!!! plus if the commune was to expand, then where would it expand to?

the expansion would require capitol, how would we earn it? classes on cob construction, a robust organic garden? Im sure if the capitol was there neighboring property could be aquired, and if we had any system in place that had a net output of excess capitol by the time we were making somewhat productive use of a full 40 acres I think we could afford expansion. Just my take on it. Im pretty down on this one man but my bank acounts only sitten at 550USD, its on the rise though cause my current living conditions are pretty cheap. like yous said before though nothing seems to happen on this forum even ventures that seem to require even the most minimal of organization, and thers not many jumpoints ont his one cause Im pretty sure the closest town to the land wouldn't exactly have a robust job market, could be wrong though.

not bad, although I would stay away from the harvested land. I have since found some better land in mb. again, we are only looking to actually buy land in octobre when the prices drop, and are just looking to see what is out there. by we I mean the 5 people I have on board so far. we are looking for more and if we buy land chances are we want something with lake, river, channel, water access of some kind. makes a commune so much better when you can go for a swim! also I suggest makihiko that you get more people on board or send me some more info privately. if we have to we might consider either moving to ontario or if we find something better mayhaps you could move here? just rambling, but it's very nice to have someone planning and getting things done. see our website for are latest news.
