1. The Hipforums announces it first ever fundraiser. After nearly 30 years online, we must ask our members and guests to help support the website. Thanks to years of ongoing financial support of our members, advertisers and volunteer admin staff, we have been able to keep the forums alive.

Now we must ask for help as available funds have all been used for our Internet server and other fees.

So please donate any amount to our PayPal account donate@Hipforum.com to keep the site going. If we can get enough for a few months fees, we won't need to nag you again!

I spilled beer (stupid) on my 12" powerbook G4 and now several of the keys - tab, spacebar, shift, up arrow - do not work. Apple gave me an estimated repair cost of $325. The computer works fine other than that, so i believe it to be just a superficial problem. My friend, who sells apples for a living, says he can buy a 12" keyboard and install it himself for $60 labor and an estimated $100 for the keyboard (although a quick ebay search puts the price at just $40). Should I do this? I know nothing about laptop repairs. Is it likely that a new keyboard will fix the problem, or is the damage likely to be deeper? Are the repairs complicated? Any info would be great

    Cheers folks and folketts

If your friend knows what he's doing, and if the beer really only left residue on the keyboard, then replacing the keyboard should have you up and running good as new.
