The government plans to introduce identity cards as you probably know already.
They are going to compile a massive database of personal information on everyone in the uk.

I was just wondering how many people are for or against it, and what your feeling are on it.

    Thanx

    peace.

so true can we actully trust this government when they stand to reap £5.5 billion and the £135m a year running costs from the tax payers, wouldn't it be better to invest the money in renewable energy like wind turbines

The benefits out way the disadvantages...

Many many misconceptions abound about I.D cards.. the critics view smothers the actual reality.. imho. The media feed into people fears and misconception.. merely as part of THERE agenda .. ignoring any reasonable evaluation of this issue.

I think a large 'joined up' database is a good thing.. how many times recently have the lack of inter connected information caused offenders to avoid the glare of the police ?.

In the present/future biometric data is being widely used as a ever greater attempt to stem i.d fraud.. It will be required as part of a passport [most of the actual cost]..so that element is a inevitability anyway..

Point to the source of this info.. ? I read

PMOS said that we had always been clear that ID cards were not, of themselves, the one thing which would prevent a terrorist attack. However, we believed that they could be a great help in countering terrorism, as the investigations following the Madrid bombings had shown. Put to him that the Home Secretary had said after the London bombings that ID cards would not have prevented the attack, the PMOS repeated that we had never pretended that ID cards would, of themselves, prevent terrorism. However, we believed that they would be a significant help to the police in countering the terrorism threat.

    goverment spin ?

I tend to read the legislation first..ignore the speculation..and make up my mind from that rather than chinese whispers spread from others 'hidden agenda' ...oh don't i sound pompouse :p
