i know what everyones saying. but really, can someone define hippie for me? not hippie from the sixties.. define what we are right now.

my friends see the way i dress, and my morals, and my drug habits, and they call me a hippie. i dont really care what people see me as.. as long as they see me for me.

people tend to be pulled towards me for my positive aura and my "fuck everything go with the flow" attitude.. and apparently that makes me a hippie.

    i couldn't care either way.

i came to hipforums because i wanted to meet cool people that share my taste in music, and my beliefs.. not because i wanted to follow some "trend".

there are some real hippies still around, but the younger ones, around here, do it because boho clothes are in style again, and when someone hears boho.. they think hippie. so they classify themselves as the more known and popular label.

    thats just my two cents..

There's only 4 young hippies in my town, which all happen to be a part of my band "The Sunshine Children". I don't dress what is seen as "hippie". It's just not a fashion trend here. It's a system of beliefs. A system of beliefs of peace, love, freedom, unity, etc.

And yea, "G-Unit" is the stuff popular here.

It annoys me how band stuff is so accessible to just anybody nowdays. I mean Walmart is selling The DOORS sweaters. I liked real music before consumers did, and I am sick of people wearing band shirts and not knowing songs by that artist.

well. i dont consider myself a hippy. but as i am discovering who i am and stuff people do in their teenage years i see myself fitting the catagory more and more. but i think you cant call yourself a hippy untill u fully understand all the aspects. and most teenagers dont understand them all untill they are like 20. so wen im 20 ill decide if im a real hippy or just a pot head bum.

you gotta get over the labels. seems like you're caught up in the fakeness also. a peace sign and stereotypical clothes doesn't make you anything. are you saying you'rw a hippie and other people aren't? what makes you so "hippie"?

I just hope slave kids didn't make them.

being a hippie is like being cool. you never out and say it, you just act the way you act and bring it to the man in your own way. you dont say you are one, and you dont have to be told you are one. its such an ambiguous term, and the only real fake hippies are the people who have a checklist of stereotypes that they do in order to gain a name. You really dont conform to counter-culture. Just be real, then your not a fake. simple as that.

just thinking about this stuff is stupid. you can't win. i remember when "punk" was suddenly popular, and the only way you were a "real" punk was to make fun of the posers. i can change my label six times a day. every time i get dressed i become something different. and all it depends on is how lately i've done laundry.

ok... that might be misunderstood and you guys might think i'm saying i change my clothes six times a day. haha. but, no, i mean if i'm debating a teacher who is pro war, i'm a punk or a hippie. if i come home and watch jerry springer (i don't, but it's just an example), i'm a stupid redneck. if i'm sitting in my room listening to techno and making bracelets, i'm a kandi kid. if i'm bitching about my life, i'm emo.

there are certain things hippies wear or do to kind of tell other people a little about themselves... like someone wearing a tie dye shirt and a hemp necklace with a mushroom on it, you can assume won't flip if you ask to buy a bowl off them. except that you're stupid for doing that in school. if you go to a festival, the cops aren't gonna be wearing cop uniforms. it's like a subtle way of saying "i'm cool if you're cool". in an environment like school, the people who are most hippie in their lifestyle might not dress like it because they don't want that attention from authority.

i'm really jumping from thought to thought here... this subject always confuses me... but i guess the point is, it is possible to be a hippie and know it, just like it's possible to be a christian and know it. but just like if you tried to be a good christian, you wouldn't tell others they weren't as good as you, if you try to be a hippie, you're accepting of people's fashion choices. it really comes down to beliefs and vibes.

woah, my head is spinning, and i never want these thoughts to cross my mind again. argh.
