Its a question for my homework. Obvoiusly I have my own opinions as to what human nature is, but I'd really like to read what you all think. What is human nature? Do we naturally care for the common good? Are we naturally greedy and self centered? Are we just blank slates and all the decisions we make come from the way society has influenced us? Or do you think something else entirely? Please post your thoughts.
Relative to what? I don't understand your statement. Is our personality based only on society or not?
Relative to our surroundings Yes our peronality is very muched based on surroundings. e.g. Aztecs compared to us

well the thoughts that go through our heads are in relation to our surroundings both past and present
While our human nature is very much orchestrated by our environment there are universal traits; these however are all pretty nasty. I hate to sound the pessimst but humans by nature are greedy and selfish. Like all creatures we strive to survive.....at all cost. Our own well being and luxury is first and foremost in our mind, no matter how we try to deny and reject it.
I think we are naturally greedy and selfish. Sometimes it's hard to act against our natural "instincts", but the right path is not always the easy one.
every decision and action is rational and reasonable, in its context. Every society/culture is rational and reasonable, they didn't just suddenly decide one day that sacrificing people would be cool. Also... if it's a question on your homework, you better be putting in your own opinions too mister
Also human nature tends to be "judgemental". We've all learned a little bit of persecution at some point and tend to use it to our advantage. Be it that we don't like someone for their race, looks, gender, beliefs, etc.
