is it just me or did any one else notice that when TRL started showing on mtv the (c)rap scene began. now just to protect my ass here, im not saying that all rap is crap, it just seems that the is a lot more crap rap since the birth of trl and the downfall of mtv. letting the stupid people of america pick all the things that will be on tv is absolutly rediculous. (REALITY SHOWS!!!!! BUT DONT LET ME GET STARTED ON THAT ONE). Before is start ramblin to much ill let people respond to what i have here and throw in some shit along the way
yes, it seems to me that is what happened. i have never watched TRL (i cant even stand to watch MTV itself anymore) an dont plan on it. as a result of the music world being flooded by crap (that all sounds the same no less) i dont bother to listen to the radio, unless its the grateful dead hour i lost my train of thought.
actually i have to correct you on two counts. MTV started going down hill when they started producing thier own tv shows instead of playing music videos. then they spawned the bastard child called M2 which was their dumpstation for all of their videos. Alas, in my area you have to have DSS to see M2. Though I doubt I would watch it either. And you comment about all rap not being crap. Wrong. Rap is crap. It doesn't take much talent to talk and rhyme against a beat track that is composed of ripped off music riffs and bass tones. Infact back in the day it was called square dancing.
Yeah, where is all the good rap? It sucks because all rap is getting such a bad rap because of all the crap rap. lol
is anything on TRL or MTV in general good? no, its all crap too. all the good hip hops not on the radio or tv i guess thats why. because thats all based on image.
i wouldn't know... i don't listen to it on the norm, just in passing when I can't get away from it. BTW I've seen TRL (about 5 years ago) when do they ever show the videos in regular rotation?! last time I tuned into Emtv, there was no videos, just programing.
They dont really let you choose though....I mean all the choices are the stuff they are already playing, when they bother to play videos at all. I did see Korn on there once......
you used to be able to vote online or something, but eve if you still do, i bet it doesnt even matter.
we should all get together sometime , us forumers, and vote something odd in. Something that has never been played on MTV. Or maybe an old Danzig Video.......
haha, but the only problem is you can only vote on the videos they have..the only 10-15 there are at a time. the whole mtv scene is terrible, but theyre veyr, very smart. if youre home alot when youre younger watching tv ...youd most likely check out mtv and soon after, youll be watching it all the time, and sometimes watch nothing else. as some hippie would say , "it brainwashes your mind, man". but anyway, in school (shop), i once watched a real world marathon, and i hate that stuff, but i somehow became a little interested and wanted to see the rest. its crazy. theres also some terrible messages theyre giving these kids, just watch the commercials they have.
--Shitty music on MTV started when they were tried for being "racist". They were'nt showing enough rap, and everyone got pissed off. They were then forced to show rap, which at the time was'nt even that bad, when music went to shit. --Cable became popular. As more and more people bought cable, stress was put on MTV to show mainstream music, comercials, and shows, in order to keep ratings up. --Unkle_John- That "ripped off music" is called sampling. Sampling is an art form just as legitimate as any other. People spend decades learning the art and science behind audio production, have some respect.
Actually, TRL has birthed more shit than just the crap rap. It is also the reason for all of the Good Charlotte's, Blink 182s, etc. Mtv must die!!!!!
MTV killed rock and roll. Lennon's death was a severe blow to rock, but MTV sealed the deal. Rock is Dead!!!!!
Yes, MTV started the slow roll into the hole when it began programming sitcom-reality craparola instead of showing videos. Then TRL specialized in showing just pieces of craptacular videos, and the slow roll picked up speed. Rap can be pretty creative....I think Jay-Z has made some interesting contributions. But the rap has to have music...drums and a lot of posturing just don't cut it.... Once MTV was pretty hip......but now it just gags a maggot.....
sounds to me they should have spent their time wisely and learned something usefull in music. I don't give respect to "musicians" who use other people's work. Or "artists" who butcher good songs.... like what puff doody did with kashmire.
They dont "butcher" the songs. they use them in a good way, still respecting the artists music they use. depending on what artist or song occasionally they probably also mean it as a homage. they dont mean to just use a good song and "steal" their music to use for themselves. and uh, not only hip hop samples. theres alot of different types of music that samples, including electronica and rock. and believe me, its not that easy to sample. its often a pain in the ass.
there is a lot of good rap out there you just have to look for it, there is no good mainstream rap so thats probably why you havent heard any good rap. i cant think of any of their names now, but ill be back to post that for you!
