It doesn't matter where you shop or whatever, as long as you don't act like the majority of the people who do shop (and work) there. Heh, sorry, I just know that everytime I've gone into those stores around here, the people are incredibly rude. Wear what you want. If you're interested in going for a hipper style, then let your hair relax (everytime I see gel, I think of hair suffocating, lol), and look into tie dye. Can't go wrong with tie dye...lol. But if you like the way you dress now, then stick with it. Do whatever you want. That's what it's all about, after all, living by your own rules.

I dont think you can say your "political agendas register under hippie" when your shopping in shops that sell mass produced product. i mean i appologise if you have tlooked into these companies and made sure that their clother ARE ethically produced but if you havn't i would seriously advise it.

your right im not really a full blown out hippie...but i am hip none the less lol. id really appreciate it if someone could post a site or something where i could buy clothing that makes me look more hippish...i dont any hand sewn threads, tie dye, or anything way over the edge... but for example look at how some of the members from phish dress....kinda like that look.

Check out thrift stores for vintage tees and cords or rustic jeans. I'm not really sure I understand excatly what you are looking for.

    buy what YOU like.

i like to shop ebay cause you can get some really nice and interesting things that no one else has.....as well as get lots of second hand stuff and do your part by recycling old clothes rather then making corporations richer.

Hey man, I think it's great that you are looking into more enviro, world friendly alternatives! No hippie is going to look down on you mate. We're a diverse bunch and being accepting of others is what makes us hippies. There's nothing wrong with wanting to wear 'hip' clothes, but I do agree with Fleassy - try not to get too hung up on your image. Your real friends like you no matter what you wear. I know a few sites that sell some nice hemp stuff that doesn't look too 'over the edge'' as you put it. Pretty basic, simple stuff.

Oh hey, and you can also get that designer stuff that you like at thrift shops for a fraction of what you pay brand new and usually its in great condition. ANd best of all, you aren't supporting the big bad industry, but your local thrifty shop. I found a pair of Seven jeans the other day for 9 bucks - practically brand new. I'm so not trendy, but I bought these because they fit well and I needed new jeans. I know they're trendy 'round here because EVERYONE wears them, but I don't care.

see the sticky and support the fine folks in here.
I love the dress I bought from Sunshine Vix (WHERE IS SHE?) three years ago. I have made one adjustment and one repair.
not bad given the care it gets (rough )
