i just finished reading "the universe in a nutshell". i particularly liked his chapter with kip thorne on time travel. his way of explaining the basis of his studies and the theories he builds on them has been broken down into fairly simple forms, and even though the vastness of his ideas has applied the "i think i ate to much" principle to my mind, it's just so fascinating to witness such brilliance. the documented conflict of what should be and what is, is simply -wow- in this book. i really enjoyed reading it. on top of which, hawking has an incredible sense of humor, and it was just plain fun for such a down to earth (or is it out-of-this-world?) subject. what do you think?? what about "A Brief History of Time"
Right on! Stephen Hawking is like the new-age Socrates or Plato. He takes us just a step farther each read too. Put it away and read it later. It's like reading it for the first time only with different meaning. Love and Peace Taz.
He's incredibly brilliant. I loved A Brief History of Time, The Universe in a Nutshell and On the Shoulders of Giants. All very fascinating. He's considered the most brilliant theoretical physicist since Einstein. It is a good idea to read the books a couple times.
I found his ideas interesting but I just wish they were more summed up. I know that this is the universe and that most of it is already summarized but still I couldn't handle reading it...I would have quit if I hadn't had to do it for school.
I loved a brief history of time. I have been very into reading book and quantem physics and stuff lately and I think he does a good job of explaining the universe. I haven't seen the movie but I think it must be amazing
For those of you who aren't intimidated by serious astronomical theories, check out Hawkings Black Holes and Baby Universes. It's a collection of essays and speeches written by the modern day Einstein, and it's not geared toward the laymen.
