    hey hippies

i been playin guitar and singing for 4 years now and i have no big aspirations other than to never have to do anythin than play my guitar, sing, and live off it.

now, im at college at the moment, and my buddy just got kicked out for stoning too hard in between lessons, and its made me think. weve been busking in Cambridge many a time and it brings in a lot of the green stuff (the evil kind, not the herb) we've hatched a plan to buy a mini van and go on a busking trip of England/europe/Usa/the world/whatever.

so yeah, if you got any busking stories or info on towns you live in like if u need a license or whatever, then just drop a thread!

    peace and love

i am currently at music school now in BC.....i've been in bands my whole life....my last band played alot of shows, pulling a good following in Southern California....we played with local bands like Liquid Window and Natural Aphrodisiac (who is now Nafro)....but now i'm studying all of the aspects of the music industry. I'm currently working with a 36 x 24 x 2 Peavy board, Protools, Logic 7, all the most kick ass keyboards and Synths.....and thats only the first year....it only gets better!! but i will be in the industry somewhere....from Recording Studio work, to Post Work for TV or Film, or the dream job a musician. which in reality will be alot easier if i am working in a studio, you start making contacts and some one "big" just might dig what you got, hear at the right time and your on your way. but in the end, if i could just work the industry with post work....scoring music for films or tv, or doing foley art......which is fun as hell.....if thats my day job and i can still afford to record my music get it out there and play shows....i'll be smiling like a bastard! because i just want to keep on playing and have some folks listen....

Hi Rob - I didn't busk full time till I was twice your age,and I didn't have a van - I had a pushbike and an accordian.Glad I did it though - was a real adventure. The main things I encountered in Britain anyway is don't bother asking if it's ok to busk...just do your thing but if you are asked to move on - move on.er in each town I came to I'd find out where the main square is,and get there early like before 11 am (in Summer) so you get a good pitch.Don't let on where your staying the night to people you don't know, while it seems free and easy there are people who just see you as scum.I always cooked over an open fire so I always found places just out of town, where no-one would see the smoke.And...I know it sounds stupid but if the only money you have is what you are making from busking - try and spend it wisely. If it starts raining for like weeks on end,you can get stuck. But anyway - thats just what I learned you don't have to take any notice of what I say - thats the beauty of it all - not knowing whats coming next.It was great though to wake up on a monday morning and not be part of the rat race, and take trips into the mountains and basically go wherever the hell you wanna go! Strangest thing that happened to me was that I left my accordian in a bank by mistake, came back an hour later to find the bank was closed due to a bomb scare - this was during all the terrorist scares with iraq. They evacuated the supermarket and a clothes shop.I had to wait 1 hour for the police to arrive before I could tell them it was just my accordian. They questioned me for about half an hour but luckily I had all my details with me - passports and stuff.Cheers dude.
