Since I was little, I loved the shows that Discovery Channel had to offer. Oftentimes, I learned more from that station than I did in school. But in recent years, it's programing has really gone down the tube what with Monster House,Monster Garage, American Chopper. They might as well do Monster Neighborhood(change that run down street into the coolest place in town!) the only solace I have for truly educational television lis in the History Channel. Whatever happededvto my dear old Discovery?

that's why I like discovery civilization - has all the shows I used to love, like specials on mummies and maybe finding atlantis in bolivia and all that neato stuff about the ancient past.

Why not watch PBS? There's great stuff on there. :)

There seem to be a lot of misnamed channels on cable these days. The most notorious for me is AMC (American Movie Classics). I suppose one could argue that 'classic' is debatable, but Halloween 5? Bonfire of the Vanities? I can remember when they used to actually show classic films (and without commercials).

Also, TLC (The Learning Channel). Now all we get are show after show of people ruining other people's houses.

    And of course, MTV. Arrrrgh!

Both AMC and A&E have gone into the toilet, especially A&E. And now they do popup ads during the movies. Really sleazy.

TLC was on a baby kick a few years ago. 8 hours a day of video of women having babies. ???

Discovery was more like a research channel back in the 80s and got more and more sensational as the years went on.

The Game Show network needs to see a psychologist too. All this week they played the same show at 11 pm (when Matchgame was scheduled) about some woman named Ruiz who supposedly cheated in a marathon back in 1978. What does that have to do with game shows?? :)

The weather channel is goofy too. Every time they change the picture, they keep showing that same clip of the woman holding her baby to the sun and spinning in circles, and then the little girl holding her doll up and spinning around. ??? Every commercial on TWC has babies or little kids in it.

I completely agree. I feel dumb watching Discovery nowadays.

They might as well do Monster Neighborhood(change that run down street into the coolest place in town!)

Didn't they do that already, or am I thinking of Trading Spaces?

Shaggie, I agree with everything you said; in fact I was going to comment on most of that myself. Don't forget TLC's wedding shows too, that was a real treat...

I'll add that the History channel sucks now too, all they show is "modern marvels." Sorry, I thought there was more to history than "modern" inventions in the last hundred years or so. Either that, or they just show stuff about the Romans or Egyptians, and of course, the Bible. Usually it's the same shows over and over. There is SO much history to talk about, what about ancient India, or the Native American tribes and civilizations (Anasazi, Aztec, Inca), or ancient China, etc? There are a million things they could show, stuff that you don't already learn in school that could really be interesting and "new" to people.

I'm starting to wonder why I pay for cable. Truly, I do watch PBS more than anything.

Don't forget the Hitler thing on the History Channel. :)

Modern Marvels would be more appropriate for the Discovery Channel or Learning Channel, but they are too busy with shark attacks and women having babies. :)
