Im so confused. I was on the depo shot for a year and i didnt have any bad side effects other than a decreased sex drive, which was horrible, soi decided to try something else. I cannot take any thing with estrogen in it so the doctor told me my only choices are the shot or the mini pill. But the mini pill is significantly less effective then the shot and this worries me. Now i am thinking of just going back on the shot, but i am worried about having no sex drive. I was just wondering if anyone else here cant have estrogen and what works for them, or if your on the mini pill if it would be a good choice or not.

And more importantly, since i am pretty sure i will go back on the shot bc of its effectiveness, is there anything you know of that can help bring back my sex drive? ( I am too psycho to just use condoms i really need to be on a hormonal birth control for me to not freak out about pregnancy, so i just need to figure out what to take that wont fuck me up. and i am limited on choices)

Well, the Mini Pill is the exact same hormone as Depo, and the side effects are almost identical. (The benefit of the Mini Pill is you can stop it if you get side effects, with Depo, you are stuck for 12 or more weeks.) If Deop killed your sex drive, the minipill probably will as well, AND the minipill is NOT as effective as Depo, if it is not taken at the EXACT same time every day, it effectiveness plummets even more.

The only hormones you can take for BC are either a Progestin Estrogen combo pill, (and you can't take Estrogen) or plain Progestin, which causes you to lose your sex drive. There are other options, but not hormonal ones.

A diaphram can be very effective, if used properly.

The Today Sponge is back on the market, but it should be used with a condom for better protection. You have to be careful about placement and leave it in for 6 hours (but not much longer than that) after relations.

And IUD is a curved wire placed in your uterus, which prevents implantation, and is workable for some womyn. But, if you have had heavy bleeding or severe cramps or ever had a Pelvic Inflamitory Disease, it is not for you.

Some womyn use a cervical cap, but they are hard to find, and you need practice to place it.

You may want to go to a Planned Parenthood Clinic and speak to a doctor or midwife about any other options.
