I think that would be great even though I am not a fan of subforums. I think it would help get rid of the feeling that everyone is stepping on toes because they are posting their new stuff that also happens to be up on ebay of for sale on their sites.

I also think it's a good idea, it would make it easier for those heavily involved in crafts to navigate the forum. I also think a subforum for those who are posting stuff they intend to sell would be good, I know we have a "for sale/trade" forum but people will still post that stuff in here so might as well give them a place to do so? Maybe?

I think that a "How to" / "DIY"/ "Home Improvement" forum would be useful. The threads that would fit there have been scattered all over the place. I'm not sure that it is realy a sub-topic of Fashion & Crafts, but if you decide to sub-forum F&C, then "DIY" might be a good trial sub-forum.

Ok it is looking like people are interested in having sub-forums in this thread,it would ease the navigating through this lengthy thread. It would also allow more people to view people's crafts, more readily. Thus organizing the thread, and allowing people to check out what they are interested in.

Once again I am extending my offer to help out with this, even though I have no idea what I am doing. There are 3 pages of posts, stating a desire to have sub-forums,so maybe the idea should be given a closer look.
    Thanks.

ok drumminmama...I have talked gdhmomchild about this subject of sub-forums....I have offered to help out with it ...since I do have my own crafts forums here at hips....and there is a definite need to organize this forum since so many projects get cycled through with-out being seen...call me ate up or just plain bored...but I just went through all 180+ pages of this forum...and got a basic list of the different types of crafts that have been posted here...I came up with approximately 60 different craft topics....I have no idea how many sub-forums you were looking to have or how many would even be allowed...loosely sorting through these things I have come up with about 12 headings..and it could be taken even further actually....I won't flood this thread with breaking it down here....I will send you this list and breakdown in a pm......but I feel this is really something that is needed for this forum....cuz wading through this forum can be a task

60 is overkill and shows a need for broader definitions. I think Skip did well in music, despite the fact that I grumbled about some names (gd/phish for all jam? uhh... gd and phish are no longer! Just call it Jambands)
    My list: (9)
latest creations (all media, one-two pix, sized so the text doesn't go wacky)
    yarn- knitting weaving, crochet
    sewing & reconstruction
    Jewelry (incl. hemp)
Dyeing (batik, tie dye, overdyeing, fabric painting, etc)
General crafts: ceramics, soap/candles/ potpourri..??? What else here?
fashion (hair length, bell bottom threads, the how do I dress like a hippie, etc)
room and home decor (curtains, bean bags, rugs, cd clocks and the joys of lava lamps)
member Web sites/ sites to see (some comments so thses aren't simply ads)
FC for sale /trade/ swap box

is still prob a bit long and left some things like screen print out.
    So:
how does this look: (7 subs)

Body (fashion and bath/shampoo sorts of things-not how tos on clothes, but style)
Home & Bus ( decor: curtains, bean bags, rugs, cd clocks and the joys of lava lamps)
    Fiber arts: (dye/paint/screenprint, weaving)
Yarn (knit, crochet, macreme/hemp-big enough to need own forum)
Clothes & accessories construction (patchwork, reconstruction, general sewing & how tos)
    Jewelry
combine Show it off/Latest creations member sites and a FC for sale/ trade/ swap box ( also bad trader alerts/ E-bay complaints etc here)

then anything not covered goes in the entries under the subs, like music.
If some fad really takes off we can add it.

your break down into categories....is a better approach at organization...than what is already going on in the forum....I wasn't attempting to break it down into individual crafts....I was just saying there needs to be some type of order brouht to the furom...since there is alot that gets lost real quick..just through the basic shuffling of new posts being added regularly....your sub-headings look fine in the way you have broke the topics down....works for me:)

drumminmama, i think that looks like a really good breakdown of topics. i think it leaves just enough still clumped together so that they'd all get good traffic.

How about organizing it by end product?

Most of those categories above would still hold:
    Art
    Clothes
    Jewelry
    Body Care
    Home Crafts
    For Sale/Trade/Show/Swap

So the clothes forum would combine yarn, patchwork, sewing into one.

I would do the 6 subforums mentioned above if it works for you.

i don't know, i think the clothes category could use some breaking down. in addition to patchwork and yarn arts and sewing (which, keep in mind, are not only for clothing and home crafts) you have dying and it would probably end up with most of the fashion discussion from this forum. other than that i think it looks pretty good.

i think these categories make more sense. yeah, sure, some like "clothes" will get lots more traffic, but some of the music subforums get absolutely no traffic at all, while others are really really busy.

...could you put Knotty Know-how forum as a sub-sub-forum of the body sub-forum? :D
